Walk into church with Linda F. Watch everyone-we’re in another room. They’re still up and moving around. Suddenly everyone stands and starts clapping for Linda. I whisper for her to stand up.
Talk to an old man about civil war. He says 30 years ago there could’ve been one. I think back and say the L.A. riots are the only thing, I was there, and there wasn’t enough broad based support to sustain an insurrection. He starts mumbling and I ask him to speak up and he says wait. I go over to a platform and start messing with a server-moving it so the keyboard can stand up. I push and the Christmas lights come on. The old man says that’s it, I let go, and they go back off. They come on again when I hold them. I say. “OK, I’ll stay here like this forever.” Finally get the server and keyboard balanced.
