The Second Summer is here

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

We’re in Second Summer-93 degrees today… No more apples, but the plums are almost ready. Not much going to this interval, watching the political entertainment, listening to NPR, working out, going to work. Trying to keep my head above water-not succeeding. There are a few things I need to do, and a second gig might help-if you read this and need web stuff or graphics, I can help.

Monday (8/28). Looking forward to a few days off this coming weekend. I’m tired. Fine gamelan last week-I have the patterns down for the lancaran. My gamelan crush has returned. Drove Erika and Salem to Breitenbush Thursday-went to the outlet on the way. The fire damage is tremendous. The sun was orange on the way back down the canyon. Took a few pictures. Got 2 12’s of Gatorade Cucumber Lime on the way back for after working out. Got my new Fitbit. Tough workout on Friday-didn’t get through the run or the workout. A thing, disappointing. Drove back to pick them up Saturday morning. Stopped on the way back a couple of times. Home, interesting thoughts/realizations Sunday morning waking up-maybe a new essay? Fine workout in the afternoon. Hard to get up this morning.

Tuesday morning, listening to the all-company broadcast. Went to bed late-reading.

Wednesday noon. Got my new crown put in-15 mins-this guy is great! Good workout last night-bike and NR1. Not much else-Erika and Salem went to the state fair.

Thursday afternoon. It’s been raining all day. Glad I covered the porch couch last night. Meh gamelan practice last night-only a few people showed up, so we went round robin with the fast lancaran-I didn’t do great on the bonang, and failed on the imbal demung too. Bleh. I did get the gong part quickly… My crush was there too. Not much else-I have tomorrow and Tuesday off.

Tuesday (9/5). I have the day off and slept in. Same with yesterday-went to the binz, gathered apples-not many left, and pulled a recycling bin full of blackberries, plus herbicide, so maybe fewer next time. Today I have doors to remove and a bidet to install (didn’t-I couldn’t close the hot water valve). Weekend was pretty quiet, took Salem to the record store Saturday, got a few cheap ones, slept in Sunday, worked out Fridaymeh and Sundayok, and later today…

Friday, time for bed. Decent workout, pretty quiet otherwise. Work, Salem’s first week of school, Claire’s enrolled too. Ok workout Tuesday, no gamelan Wednesday.

Monday (9/11). What is that date again? Oh, yeah, I remember what I said about 9/11. Meant it. The day Dubya was visiting a grade school in Florida, after he forgot to pay attention to a briefing given a month earlier entitled “Bin Laden determined to strike in US.” And that’s as close as I’m going to get to politics… Been listening to NPR on the car rather than music. There was an interesting report last night about “Reading Recovery“. Not sure if my kids would’ve been subjected to it if they hadn’t gone to Waldorf. It would’ve been fine for Salem and Claire-they were both good readers from the start, but it would’ve ruined Mathias. Well. Not much this weekend-fine 5k run and workout Friday, driving around and binz Sat., sleep in and quiet Sunday, plus good intervals and workout. Got a little done. Helped Claire out with the FAFSA application. Odd dream this morning.

Wednesday, midday. Trying to get some work done. Pretty mellow-working, nice change of pace cardio & negative workout last night-delayed a bit because I took Salem home. Claire went to a great show last night too, in a tiny venue. They go to a lot of great shows. Gamelan tonight.

Thursday. Got a prod deployment done, finished another thing. Gamelan was fine, fine on the bonang bit, Vera brought a bunch of mushrooms-I’m trying to pickle some. And mushroom soup sometime soon. Trash time.

Friday-gotta gotta gotta get down, dammit! I’m not gonna-giving blood at 5-first time in 20 years…no workout, wife is going to urgent care afterwards to pee into a cup-doc finally got back to her-she’s been low-level sick for more than a week. Salem stayed home. Another quiet day, trying to get my thing buttoned up. Everything else is done or close enough. I think I’ll call this.

Page 23, sentence 5: “Neanderthals and archaic Homo sapiens probably also had a hard time talking behind each other’s backs-a much maligned ability which is in fact essential for cooperation in large numbers. ” Sapiens.

Pre-and-post hiatus. What did I do again?

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

OK, I’m calling this-it’s been five months. Really the same ‘ol the whole time. Doing fine in our new house. It’s quite chill, with decent neighbors. That may be changing… The rest of the world is in a fine state, but not really affecting us that much, other than the high interest rate we’re paying. And the hot weather. Politics and general discourse is a disaster. And the weather? Yow! Been listening to OPB in the car.

Tuesday morning (3/21). Another bill pay declined <sigh>. Well, the bonus this year is going to be really good, so I’ll spend some of it on that, and a trip to Vegas, but the majority needs to get saved because of the mortgage… It’s a beautiful day, though.

Friday morning. Friday noon. Friday afternoon. Don’t think I’ll get to this until after working out…and it’s Tuesday morning. So the weekend was a weekend. Workout Friday and Sunday, pulled holly Saturday, church, libe, shop and a thing Sunday, paid a bunch of bills-the bonus was sorely needed… Erika, Salem and their friends went to Breitenbush Sunday/Monday. I was going to make sweet & sour pork, but ran out of time. Finally started to clean up the graffiti on our concrete wall in the driveway. Needs another pass with a wire brush. Need to fix one of the fence doors too. Erika accidentally turned on a burner in kitchen 2 and started a bag of pretzels on fire-glad I was in here…the overhead fan is misbehaving… Always something needing to be done-saw a big blackberry cane over by the graffiti too. Blackberries and holly aren’t allowed here, even though blackberries are delicious, and this area is called Holly Acres. Holly grows like a weed-subterranean root systems sprout new trees. They’re both Class C invasive plants. Got Salem’s old laptop working again-we found the power plug… I copied everything over from my old one-I think I’ll retire that one, depending on how well I can get the Windows stuff working on Linux.

Thursday, late morning. Will I get to this today??? Nope. Friday morning (3/31). Trying to get some stuff done before the weekend. Not much going on. Matt is taking his driving test again today-we’ve gone out a few times, and he’s still quite awkward behind the wheel, and makes bad decisions. We’ll see. I overworked my hamstrings on Tuesday-negatives. Did the stairmill for the first time-that was fun… Hamstrings are still sore. A Gamelan thing. Got a wire brush yesterday and took a second pass at the graffiti-looks better. Pulled that blackberry cane too. And got keys for everybody. And visited Costco. And took out the trash.

Thursday afternoon (4/6). Busy trying to get our app in shape for uat. They’re making us upgrade a devops component and it’s breaking anything that goes against SQL Server in Python. aargh. Leaving it as is means a 30 min wait when deploying, and eventually it will fail. Anyways. Matt got his license, the usual over the weekend, I capped our second shower head, need to screw in the bracket for the broken gate, the graffiti needs another pass, got new filters for the spa, workouts (3, not 3/31, 4/2, 4/4)-I had to cut the Tuesday one short to pick up Salem, and drove them to school yesterday. Gamelan last night, my hamstrings are recovered. Not much else-need to cut the grass and aerate, kill the plants in the herb garden area. Erika’s phone is messed up-had to file a claim.

Friday noon. Have to wait until today to get E’s new phone-the auth from the insurance company runs on an overnight batch rather than EDI. Had to call t-mobile to check it. I got the thing fixed-a 3 line change to the ci file…now I have to make that change to 6 other lambdas.

Monday night. Reading a good book. Upset stomach this afternoon. Workout, mellow weekend, shopping, church-Salem was Judas, Easter egg hunt, tidy, cooking dinner, Colin’s gf visited, no workout. Got Erika’s phone, super easy set up.

Wednesday afternoon (4/12). Went from having an upset stomach to a full-blown cold. Pretty bad one too-coughing a lot, no covid. Trying to get work done, but it’s hard. Didn’t sleep well-bagged working out.

Thursday evening. Still sick-took the day off and slept until noon. Salem is on a trip to Salem for a theater camp. Erika slept in Colin’s bed last night. Not much else-had takeout Chinese last night, got a work thing done this evening, need to take out the trash, doubt I’ll work out tomorrow…

Friday night, started my taxes. Need to wait to get my W-2. Not much else-got stuff done, skipped workout-feeling better, but still not 100%, made dinner, Salem is having a great time.

Wednesday late morning (4/19). Another work day-got jumped on a task I was supposed to do next week. No worries. Pretty quiet-just the way I like it. Feeling better-workout last night was tough though-ARC machine was ok, but working out was tough-had to stop after every machine to catch my breath. Weekend was pretty jelly too-ran Salem around Sunday to a show-a thing-they had a great time. The rest was the usual, taxes, picked Salem up after their trip, shopping, need to cut the grass soon, hopefully it’s dry this weekend.

…and now it’s late August (8/22)… Haven’t touched this since April-a bit of a mini hiatus. Not much going on, other than the usual-work, gym, house. Went into the office for a day. Claire took Salem up to Tacoma for a show. Got a huge bonus, spent most of it. Scheduled then cancelled a trip to Vegas. It’s been a hot and dry summer. Many many apples from our tree-only a few edible ones. 62nd birthday. Listening to NPR in the car now. Taking Erika and Salem to Breitenbush Thursday. Our front porch looks nice. We all have AC in our bedrooms. Claire got a cool Strat copy. Matt got his license and is driving at work. We got new couches from Ikea, thinking my mom would come up for Matt’s graduation, but she got a bad UTI and had to cancel. Erika is trying to clear her stuff.

Wednesday. Waiting for an eligibility specialist for OHP weirdness. Been on for 80 minutes. And my Fitbit is acting up, just after I canceled Premium, so I have to call them too. Not much else-gamelan tonight, worked out last night, elliptical and COP 1, had to wait for tai chi b/c the area was being used by a-holes. Took Salem to school for rehearsal-they slept late. We have to drive to Bend to get puppets for the play.

If it’s Spring, then why the snow?

I know the answer to that… Pretty much rolling along other than the odd weather, and a lack of ca$h. Tip, please! The wider world is pretty messy, and I’m disliking some of it. Other stuff I do like, though. Pretty generic sentiment, that… Something’s coming? This is, though, to Portland! And I didn’t know this existed until last week! This is fun, though, and I know that area well.

Sunday night- time for bed. Pretty quiet weekend. Gym Friday, shop Saturday, Salem to school for a thing early. Picked up Colin in the evening. Slept in Sunday, vacuum, put grippy tape on the dining room rug, workout-dropped the intensity a bit. Watched The Last of Us with Salem, Battlebots by myself, Wartime Farm with Erika. Salem has a sore throat, as does Colin.

Tuesday morning (2/7). Working. Quiet day yesterday. Wednesday afternoon. Lunch time. Good workout last night-lowering the intensity so I don’t overtrain. Last minute prod change.

Friday afternoon, 2/17. Long weekend ahead. We are so out of cash. At least the house and the car are paid for this month. Pretty quiet for the last week-ferrying Salem back and forth-they’re doing stagehand stuff. Erika got a bout of diverticulitis-she hates going on a liquid diet. Did a change of pace cardio-rowing. I’m going back to run/hiit/alternate row-stair-bike-elliptical for the week. Prolly start on Darden’s too, if I can find someone to push for negative day. Not much else-got a bunch of books from the libe, lots of prod issues this week.

Tuesday morning, 2/21. Lovely day, going to be cold and snowy this week. Yesterday was a holiday-President’s Day. Right now, the only president I want to celebrate is Jimmy Carter. He’s in hospice. That man was a good egg. Pretty quiet weekend-blew the leaves off the front and back porches, moved the shitty grill off the back porch, cut the dead fronds from a perennial, vacuumed, put up a curtain rail on the back door, worked out. Got a new Fitbit-it has a heart rate monitor, so I’m back to fulltime Fitbit. Lost 4 pounds since the end of the year.

Wednesday, noon. It snowed a little, didn’t stick. Not much else-good workout last night. Elliptical and negatives.

Saturday afternoon (2/25). Pretty quiet-it’s still quite cold, they say more snow is coming. Salem is working the play this afternoon. Worked out early yesterday-didn’t want to get caught in icy conditions. Run and Basic Routine 1. Not much else-need to clean the bathroom today. Got The Nature of Order!

Monday morning. In meeting #2. Now out of meeting #3. Pretty mellow/quiet. Need to get stuff done. Got the bathroom cleaned, vacuumed. Fun picking up Colin on Sat. night… Worked out last night-intervals & BR2. Late to pick Colin up from work. Found a way to make t’ai chi take a half hour, and mucked up the time.

Thursday afternoon. Paid a bunch of bills, and got the power bill. About the same as last month. Good workout Tuesday-cycling and NR2-not many negatives I can do, but the bike is good-pretty close to a road one-narrow saddle, road-ish handles, the cool screen with stats and course segments-did a couple in France and one across the Astoria bridge. Was able to do a half-hour at level 4, interspersed with a few level bumps. My butt was a bit sore afterwards, but fine the next day. I’m much more of a cyclist than a runner…though skiing and tennis are really what I’m good at. Gamelan last night was 4 of us plus the kids. Learned another flower on bonang.

Saturday afternoon (3/4). Hanging out-Erika banged her hand with a mallet yesterday, so we’re going to get it x-rayed. Took Salem to school for the play-they’re doing tech this time. Decent workout yesterday-run and BR1. A little short of breath, but everything else was fine.

Monday morning (3/13) A week has disappeared. Not much happened, a bunch of workouts (3/5, 3/7, 3/10, 3/12), gamelan, ran around Saturday, work, production outages, Salem got a singing part, ferried them around, snow. Watched a pioneer challenge, battlebots. Put up a curtain rail on our closet.

The next Monday afternoon (3/20). Getting ready to end work, and this post. Another week, more workouts (3/14, 3/17, 3/19). We are completely out of money, and not paying bills on time. Oh well, I knew this day would come. Tried for a thing Wednesday, gamelan, nothing on St. Pat’s. Got a bunch of yard work done on Saturday-it was lovely. Cleared out a bunch of blackberries, cut down a bunch of holly. More holly to come-it’s all over our yard. My arms are all scratched up. Church yesterday-we’re finally official members, put down a run stopper thing, had to postpone the thing again-maybe Weds. Got a tetanus shot. Not much else.

Page 23, sentence 5: “There is no right way to live on the land.” No Impact Man.

Groundhog day-seems like it

The movie, just the same day over and over again. Or the same week over and over again. Anyways, no worries, or none that I can deal with quickly. If you read this, please consider tipping-we’re short on cash to pay bills. I’m still holding to not talking about politics-it’s just so ridiculous. That’s it-trying to keep things moving forward.

Tuesday (12/20) almost bedtime. Tired, did lots today, didn’t sleep well last night. Got both the flu and Covid booster yesterday. Work was fine, re-weatherstripped the front door-it was a pain-the foam I got was way too wide and thick-I had to adjust it a lot.

Sunday late night. Pretty busy week, plus Christmas. Work was fine, got everything done by the end of the week. Some snow/ice and very cold through the week. Not much else-nice to have Colin home and nice presents and dinner for Christmas.

Monday night, bedtime. Did nothing today except pick up the trash bins and clear out the rear gutter, which was clogged.

Wednesday, bedtime. Drove around today, dropped Salem off for an all day watch party, IKEA-didn’t get a wardrobe, furniture store, Lowe’s, binz, Salem wasn’t ready, home, back for Salem, Fred’s, home, dinner. Got a little sanding and more drywall mud put on. Yesterday was painting-got all except the repair bit and a hole I repaired. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the second coat put on except for those 2 places. The gym is open, so I need to start up. We are really short on cash-donate, and I need to look for a side gig.

Now it’s Monday, 1/23. Matt’s birthday. We’re so out of money. This will continue to happen until I get a raise or a side gig. Recap of the last few weeks: finished painting the walls, painted the ceiling with Matt, pulled the blinds, got new carpeting, started at the gym (not easy, given that I haven’t been since mid September-nice to have a wide variety of options, may start back on the Darden routines, though I need someone to help with negatives once a week…), put together some Ikea furniture, got my eyes checked and new glasses, went to the dentist and got a deep clean and a filling, gamelan, work.

Thursday 1/26, done with work. Not much happening, Matt had some excitement at work, a thing last night. Did a full run Tuesday.

Friday 2/3, midday. Another week over. Not sure what I want to do this weekend-there’s a big crack in the kids’ bathroom, need to clean our bathroom, and the leaves outside on the porch, plus vacuuming and taping down the rugs. Pretty quiet week-the usual over the weekend, Salem had a dance Sat., went out to dinner with Matt. Working out, prod deploy at work-missed 2 things on the plan, gamelan-that’s about it. Put a bunch of music suited to t’ai chi on plod #3, hopefully that will help. I think I’ll call this.

Page 23, sentence 5: “Design your own isometric moves by pushing any part of your body against any surface.” Keep It Moving.

Sol invictus! Happy solstice!

It’s the run up to Christmas. Nice. Things are doing OK, given the circumstances. I like this place, even if it’s cold and everything needs fixing. Christmas will be nice-I have the whole week after off, so we’re painting. I’d like to get close to normal by New Years’-not going to be easy. Happy holidays.

Monday (11/14) evening-time for bed. Nice and quiet. Busy on a prod deployment today, Salem’s yummy ex-teacher visited. Church, yard work, switched mailbox posts with the neighbor, putting stuff back in storage this weekend.

Tuesday, dinner time. No one else home. Had to quick fix an issue that someone else broke, and work on figuring out another that someone didn’t update something. Other than that, not much-our mail is back. No check from the old place yet. Coffee, though. Played my amp, sounds good, but breaking up a bit.

Thursday evening. Need to go to the libe. No gamelan last night-wife and child didn’t come home until after, even though I thought it was arranged. Had to work on a messed up work thing yesterday, changed my password and lost access today. Blew some leaves around last evening. Got the second kitchen more arranged.

Sunday evening (11/20), watching disaster TV. Pretty quiet weekend-took Salem to a play in Beaverton, shopping, dinner, more shopping today-looked at hot tubs. Skipped church.

Monday lunch. Busy working-cleared a request, one more looks like issues with the repo, the last one, not sure yet. Short week-not sure what I want to do-things and stuff? Got a radon and moisture detectors from the library. Moisture looks good, radon in our room too-2.4. Need to run it in the living room and the kids’.

Tuesday night. Just hanging out, watching TV. Got work done, next few days off. Not sure what to do. The radon in the living room looks good. The ADT guy came late with his pitch.-passed.

Wednesday evening, in bed, watching a thing about the Everest earthquake. Quiet day, late start, cleaning, working outside. Bought a washer/dryer from Lowe’s for about half off retail.

Monday (12/5). Noonish. Another two weeks just vanished. Took a few days off at Thanksgiving. Got our washer/dryer, dryer didn’t work. Get a support tech out in Friday and it was missing the door switch and the motor wasn’t mounted right. It gave us 80% blocked, so we bought a vent cleaner, cleaned it out, and it works! Did my laundry last night and it’s nice and quick. We also got a guy out to fix the hole in the living room. He did fine, but cut the cable, so I had to have Comcast come out to remount it. We also got a blow-up spa, and I put it up Saturday. Erika and Matt used it last night.

Thursday night. Pretty quiet. Getting work done. Took out the trash, put up the doorbell. No gamelan, though I went. Put up lights too. Everyone is fine.

Sunday night, 12/11. End of a busy weekend. Quiet Friday, making progress at work. Nice lazy Saturday morning, but busy the rest-cut and prepped the cross piece for the neighbors’ mailbox extension, cleaned and consolidated the living room, drank a little with Matt. Got up Sunday, put the cross piece on-had to saw 2 notches to get it to fit. Erika got a truck, and we put the 4 doors, desk, darkroom stuff, etc., dropped off the spa box at storage, got a recliner from a church friend, dropped all that off at the binz, Erika got another table, grabbed the couches from storage, took it all back to the house, took the truck back, ate dinner at the table, sat in the spa.

Tuesday night-bedtime. Trying to get the spa in shape. The main kitchen sink drain lost its seal-now it’s apart and needing replacement. Had fires in the fireplace. Not much else/work/vacuumed/dinner at the table last night too.

Monday evening (12/19), watching the predecessor to Space: 1999. I think I’ll call this. Busy weekend. Got the sink fixed, put up lights, got a tree, got my bathroom and workout stuff out. Otherwise the usual. A work thing Sunday morning. Salem helped in the church Christmas pageant. Going to be cold this week.

Page 23, sentence 5: “Are you a psychopath?” You do you.

A short hiatus, plus moving.

So, it’s been months-3, to be exact. Gonna call this one after a recap at the end. Hopefully I won’t miss too much. It’s been a whirlwind. Lots to do, lots done.

Friday afternoon (8/5). Have the infamous container update task today. Did another late update yesterday. That, plus 2 jobs failed today. One was fixable, the other was ours, but I know nothing about it, so another guy helped me out. So, skipped workout Monday, went Weds., pulled everything down a bit, first time on my new shoes-they’re light and nice, but my calves are still sore, so I’m not looking forward to today. Salem is interested in working out, so I may help them. We also got into a huge kerfuffle with one of her former classmates over drinking and drug use. Erika called the mom, who promptly used that against their child, and told them who told her. I told Erika this was going to happen, but she didn’t believe me. It all got sorted out, but… We’re on a budget again-I need to start up the spending pages again.

Monday noon (8/8). Monday afternoon. Pretty quiet weekend-hot. Worked out Friday. Tidied up Saturday and shop. Same Sunday. Got a new to me iPod touch at the binz. Got a big rolling bin for my clothes when we move.

Thursday afternoon (8/11), time for lunch soon. Pretty quiet week-getting stuff done. Salem went to a show Tuesday, Erika drove, and they were out late. Ran outside yesterday-it was a bit too hot, but ok otherwise. Colin is spending more time at his GF’s, so I end up running him up there from time to time. Not much else-I’m getting tired of the news, we need to find a house to buy, I need to practice more, get a charger for my old fitbit, read more, and load up the iPod touch.

Tuesday noon (8/16). Trying to work through updates to this app. I think I have it now. So pretty quiet last few days-workouts, shopping, etc. Matt failed his driving test-he needs more time on the road to up his skill level, and get more confidence. The usual other than that…

Monday noon (8/22)-time to go into a meeting. Afternoon-still working. Evening-still working, need to go to the gym, watched a half-hour pursuit in South L.A…maybe I’ll get to this later and be able to recap the last week.

Tuesday the 30th, noon. Another week flew by with no updates. Big news is we bought a house! Well, not yet, but it’s a 30 day close, the title and inspection are done, financing is in the works, and I was able to qualify for the 100% program at our bank. We have to wait an indeterminate time after closing for the seller to vacate, so it’s an odd situation, as I have to give notice here and that sort of drives that part. It’s a nice place, set back from a quiet street, 1/3 acre, 4 beds, 2 baths, 2 kitchens! An apple tree and 2 plums, room on the south side for a garden. It backs up on an apartment building, but there are trees. Not much else, the apartment here across from ours got evicted and there’s a lawsuit, and they just tried to take the washer and dryer. Not much else, starting to pack. Erika fell working on the sign at church last week and we spent the evening in the ER. Other than that, work, gym, binz, shopping, ferrying Colin from work and/or to his gf. Our car is in the shop from the accident, and it’s going to be there for a while. Insurance is paying for a rental, and we got a Malibu.

Thursday noon (9/1). Lunch. Erika wants to use a moving company. End of day. Doing the infamous update task now and at 9, plus another prod of something I broke, but wasn’t my fault. Salem’s birthday yesterday-they’re 15-went to a show in Chinatown.

It’s now November 12th. Whew! That was quite a run, and none of it written down. We’re in the new house, and sort of settled in. Our stuff is still half packed, the storage is full up, and the living room is still a storage area. The kitchen is done, I’m working in kitchen 2, which is full of stuff. The kids’ rooms are ok-Salem is working on theirs, Matt and Colin are mostly set up. Salem slept in our bedroom until tonight. Our room is about half settled. My stuff is along one wall, Erika’s piled along the rest. It’s pretty nice here-quiet, peaceful. Been cold, though. I’m still living out of a suitcase, but my routine is pretty much back to normal.

Ok, here’s an attempt at a recap. Got the car back fairly quickly. Then packing. Lots of packing. Matt and I got ours done in pretty good order, Colin too. Salem and Erika, not so much. Anyways, Salem started high school, settled in pretty quickly. Still having issues with finishing assignments on time. They auditioned for the fall play and got a starring role. They did really well. Got all the closing stuff done before we left for L.A. The train ride was nice, but sleeping in the seats, not so much. Dinner was super spendy. Got a car, hung out with mom and Holly and her husband. The painting Erika wanted was still there, but it’s $5,200, so no. The boat thing and lunch afterwards was nice. Long drive to Joshua Tree. Nice hanging out there for a couple of days. Drove back, train back home. Colin picked us up. Then, endless moving. The seller moved out right away. Erika got an estimate for flooring and the guy discovered that there was a ton of water damage in the northeast corner of the living room. I spent a bunch of time digging out all the rotten wood and running fans to dry it out. It seems better now-trying to find someone to do the repair. A plumber came to fix the leak. Moved a ton of stuff by car over the next 3 weeks. Some painting. Was going to move mid-month, postponed a week because of the plumbing. Rented a truck, moved it mostly myself. Matt helped the next day. Got all the big stuff moved, mattresses and stuff to storage on Monday. Set up my office, internet-a few hassles, but all going. More moving over the next week, cleaning and out on time! A lot of work done. A hassle with the mailbox-have to place it elsewhere. Dishwasher overflowed-the lady put soap in the rinse compartment. Dryer was making funny sounds, then was back to normal. That’s pretty much it. Gamelan this past Wednesday! A very long 2 1/2 months. Haven’t worked out since mid-September. Work is fine. Did a bunch of yard work-cleared out a ton of wood, holly, blackberries, putting leaves to compost. Need to mow and kill more weeds in the lawn. So much to do.

Another hot summer

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

This one took awhile. It’s been hot, and I haven’t been interested in maintaining a cadence on this. No worries-time is passing. I’m a bit tired, but I’m not young, so…

Midday Friday (4/15). All quiet, not so much work to do today. All the stuff we can test is working, the vendor deploys tomorrow, so Monday is another day of testing. Doing laundry, trying to keep the house tidy. Misplaced a sock. Played my Kronos this week-started a piece-stopped on a rhythm part, because the keyboard riff is in odd time. I love that keyboard-it can do so much-and the workflow isn’t bad, except you have to tap 4 times to clear a track. Friday afternoon.

Tuesday afternoon (4/19). Got my taxes done-underpaid because Colin moved out. No worries-will get it back with the Oregon refund. Or not-I just realized the Feds may take that too. Workout yesterday and Friday-going shorted to get more energy for the workout. Seems to work-indoors yesterday, on the road Friday. Quiet weekend-helped Erika at church Sat., church Sun. Shopping both days.

Wednesday night- time for bed. Busy day, dialed back the workout a bit- got halfway through the run and had to go to a walk, dropped the weights, sped up the t’ai chi.

Monday afternoon (4/25), very tired. Trying to get a mortgage loan pre-approved. Not much else-trying to get some work done-they pulled us into a rush thing, and the production deployment had some snags that we had to work around. Seems to be going OK except for the snags-they should be resolved tonight. Shortening and lightening the workout, shopped, lunch with the boys.

Wednesday morning (4/27). Not much going on-Erika and Salem are at an art museum with school, Matt is either working or at school, I’m sitting here working, sort of. Colin? probably sleeping or at work. That’s it-need to submit my loan docs-tonight maybe.

Monday afternoon (5/2), in a meeting. Pretty quiet weekend-shopping. Looked at a house. Got my 2nd booster. Not a great workout on Friday.

Friday morning (5/6). Trying to get stuff done, but not feeling great. Didn’t sleep well. Pretty quiet week-got to run on the street Weds., a mortgage guy didn’t call me.

Tuesday afternoon (5/10). Time for lunch. Pretty quiet-chatting with an ex-girlfriend from college, thought last night about Susan and that Oasis show and how I really should’ve kissed her, but was too baked. That would’ve changed things a bit. (edit-1/10/24: she didn’t realize I was in love with her-she just liked hanging out with me-bleh-kinda glad I didn’t kiss her…) Fine run yesterday-I hit just over 10 1/2 mins/mi. I’m way ahead of where I was last year. Also pushed the weights up one. Starting a walk thing for work soon too.

So it’s August first. Haven’t had a gap this long in quite a while. Now I have to remember what happened… It’s been very hot lately. Planning to go to SoCal late Sept. for my dad’s memorial. Via train, so it’ll be a change. Keeping up running and working out-got a new pair of shoes from the Woodburn Asics outlet for my birthday. I’m 61, don’t feel it. Got pre-approved for a mortgage. Got covid, but a mild case. Colin is moved back in, Salem had the play and their graduation and spent a week at camp. Took 2 days around the 4th. Doing the same for labor day and thanksgiving. Colin housesat for one for Erika’s friends. We did the sign at church twice. Watched most of the Tour-my man Quintana did well. One of these years he’s going to have it and win the whole thing. The women ran this year too, but meh. Had a windy day and flew at the local school-bumpy breezes. Fun, though. If I was able to get out more, might be able to improve some. went to Uwajimaya a couple of times.

Erika got in a fender bender parking at the binz-rolled into 2 parked cars. It was odd-one of the guys didn’t want to exchange info, and the other didn’t want us to leave until his “grandma” then “wife” arrived. Erika called the cops, a MPD cycle cop arrived, said we were OK to go, and we left. Filed the claim, got the estimate, and the ins paid out the same day. The car gets fixed August 24th. Erika had some soreness, but that’s it.

Left this one to marinate for a bit. My not so exciting life, plus busy work, means not really getting to a quick tempo. Anyways, the world is moving along much as it does. Ukraine, inflation, political insanity. At least the new Supreme Court justice is good… Not quite sure where everything else is going, but it’s Easter, so I know one thing-I’m going to go to church on Sunday. One year I did the whole Saturday night mass thing-quite an experience.

Sunday morning (2/13) Sitting on the couch drinking coffee. Salem is at a friends’, Matt is still sleeping. Spent yesterday not doing much-drove Erika to Christina’s, Salem to her friends’, picked up candy for Valentines’, went to Mike’s with Matt for dinner. Watched curling. Workouts at the usual time, work, that’s pretty much it.

Thursday evening, waiting for dinner to be ready. Things are much the same. Erika has diverticulitis-went to the Dr’s Tuesday…and today. Workouts are good, not really wanting to do a few things for work. Watching Olympics-only women’s curling, women’s skiing, short track. Shiffrin had a bad event, usa curling women too.

Sunday evening, watching team ski racing. Off tomorrow. Took Salem to a derby match last night. Workout Friday, the usual otherwise.

Wednesday morning-time for coffee. We’re so broke this week… Anyways, lazy Monday, workout, work, not much else.

Friday evening, tired, want to go to bed. Got stuff done today, workout, Mod Pizza, shop. Not much else, want to start writing.

Tuesday (3/15), been ignoring this. Didn’t start writing-yeah, still want to… Not much going on, Erika spent a night in the hospital last week-the diverticulitis. Matt is done with finals. Took Salem to a scrimmage last week.

Weds. morning. The upstairs neighbors have kids and they run around the place-the thumping drives me batty, so I cranked up Rage and Melvins yesterday. Weds. afternoon. Pretty quiet, except for the elephants upstairs. I wish I still had my Bose 901’s-they were LOUD. I used to regularly have the cops called on me when I cranked them. That would show them what’s what.

Sunday evening (4/3). Been slacking on this-can you tell? Probably not. Not much happening, so not much to write about. Colin is moving back in with us at the end of May. Wants to go to school, so saving money is a thing. VS offered him full time, and they have tuition assistance. Been running outside for 2 weeks-getting almost 4 miles in, at 11 minute miles. Getting to the end of the big work project. Erika and Salem are going up to Seattle next week. Other than that, not much has happened. Tossed a couple of things, moved my book pile under the bed, moved all my stuff in tighter.

Wednesday evening (4/6). Super sore and fatigued-ran almost 4 miles, it was windy, and a full workout. Not much else-getting through the production deployment. Got a cool sufi book. Went through the closet-tossed some more, went through the rolling bin, tossed a few things. I think I have enough room in there for my misc stuff. The only stuff I don’t have storage for is my clothes-I’m thinking another rolling bin. I also need to get rid of my unused music stuff.

Another Wednesday, another week gone. Production deploy is almost done-waiting on the last set of credentials and the last deploy/test. It snowed Monday, been hailing on and off too. Erika and Salem are in Seattle-took the train yesterday, returning tomorrow. A thing. Making sweet and sour pork tonight. Matt hasn’t been feeling well. Put Colin’s bed together. The usual other than that.

Friday morning, working, drinking coffee. Went to church last night, helped put stuff up for Easter. The sweet and sour pork on Weds. was excellent-such a great recipe. Good workout too-shortened the run to give myself a little extra energy. Erika and Salem had a great time in Seattle, but were very tired last night. It’s been sunny, then hailing, rainy, then sunny, plus the snow on Monday Psycho weather, but typical for this time of year. When we first moved up here, that was one of the things-the truck with all our stuff arrived, the guy unloaded it, and it hailed buckets.

Page 23, sentence 5: “Specifically, a center that can scrub our DOERS clean both inside and out and protect against deadly diseases from the past (and also protect the past from our biological contaminants).” The Master of the Revels, “Every person in the room knew the purpose of this mission.” The Andromeda Evolution.

This is the time

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

and this is a record of the time.

It’s February-pretty quiet, after a very busy and tiring December. Trying to keep an even keel, though Erika wants to move. Everyone is fine, Colin seems to be OK too. Trying not to pay attention to happenings in the outside world. It seems that jobs are good, inflation is not, Olympics are good, Russia isn’t. Then there’s the wacko Republicans and the orange shitgibbon. At least I’m going to the gym regularly…

Thursday, 1/6. Lots of people are talking about what happened a year ago today. I won’t. I decided to stop talking about politics here. Just too tiring.

Friday morning. Starting work, not much going on. Got back from the trip, laundry and lazy, Salem to roller derby that didn’t happen-went to the rink instead. To libe, picked them up. Dr’s visit Monday night-180#. The week has been mostly work and TV. Worked out Tuesday-still sore. Lots of people getting Covid now-Salem’s teacher, Colin’s roommate.

Saturday evening, watching Leverage: Redemption. Busy day-bought a new printer. Slept late-ish, shop, dinner, Erika had a thing. Good workout last night- hurried up the workout so I could get to t’ai chi before my BP drops. Got most of my work done this week.

Sunday evening, bedtime. Pretty quiet day, Erika had a shorter thing. Took Salem to practice, got canceled again. Glad I didn’t schedule my thing. Good workout-BP was good. Shower, dinner, bed. G’nite.

Wednesday evening, hanging out in bed watching crap TV. Usual day of work, looked at a house. Needs a ton of work. Lots of space, though.

Saturday noon. Erika is sick. Pretty quiet otherwise. Work, workout, that’s it. Got stuff done. Erika went back to the house with a realtor friend, and we’re passing-just too much work needed, including foundation cracks, mold, termites, a blackberry forest, an old buried oil tank, and they’re likely not going to take a realistic offer. I was dreaming about having my own space, though. Mike’s for dinner last night. My BP is looking good. My cholesterol is 215, which isn’t bad for me.

Sunday night. Hanging out in bed. Pretty quiet, got up mid-morning. Salem to derby practice, binz, picked up Salem-they’re improving. New Seasons, laundry, later workout because of it, shower, dinner, chill, folded laundry. 175#

Wednesday evening, watching Mission Impossible, season 1. Had to work out today-the gym was full last night. Not much else-one of Salem’s classmates has the ‘rona, so we’re waiting to see how it goes. Not much else, working. Tidied up on Monday. Trying to keep it going. Put my kites into an Adidas bat bag-I would’ve done this earlier if I had known they’d fit. Now I can put each into a separate sleeve, and the handles and line bag fit too. Erika broke our shower head. The house we looked at was pending, then not.

And now a week, Wednesday (1/26). Watching Battlebots on Discovery +, and Everest Air. We’re a bit short of cash, after 2 weeks of spending on vacation… Pretty quiet-negative ‘rona test for Salem, her classmates, not so much. Matt’s birthday on Sunday-delicious pizza, skipped workout until Monday. Got rid of the car Colin’s old GF had left. Still keeping the tidy up, thinking about how to consolidate things-Erika wants to move to a house-5 years here, that’s about the norm for her. Time to do laundry. We got a nice rain shower head.

Tuesday, (Feb 1st). Trying to get things done. Failing. Not really motivated. Pretty quiet weekend-Thai dinner Sat., tidy Sunday. Working out M-W-F now. Increased weights yesterday, not sore today. Salem’s classmates’ moms are now getting the ‘rona. Not us. Hanging out with Mr. Duck-he’s pooping everywhere.

Thursday-working through detailed UAT issues. Fun. Just did laundry, worked out last evening. Big fun.

Wednesday (2/9). Pretty quiet-watching some Olympics. Finished reading the sequel to Dodo. This one may have legs. Weekend was the usual-shop, libe, binz, drop off Erika and Salem at the mall for a haircut, picked them up after. Erika did a big pull everything out and toss, so no tidy, and the house is a mess. Working out MWF. Burned the wheat I boil for oatmeal on Saturday night-the entire living room was full of smoke, but no smoke alarm. Smelled like burned wheat for 2 days…Tested the smoke alarms, and they were fine-guess we caught it in time. Mr. Duck is hanging out here most of the day.

December 2021 Vacation recap

Here’s what I did on my vacation. It was a whirlwind, with an equal amount of fun and stress and good and bad.

Friday, 12/17The start-we tried to get started on-time, but that didn’t happen. Never does. So, drove down to Ashland. Got to the hotel about 11, the room smelled like cigarettes, the smoke detector was gone and pulled out to the bare wires, and the bathroom floor was sticky. Erika went directly to the office, cancelled the res, and we left for another hotel. The guy said we wouldn’t find one, but the first one we went to had room, and we stayed there. It was pretty cool-old and stylish.
Saturday, 12/18So , we get up and have breakfast at the hotel, get on the road, and there’s an alert on the car that says “Fill reserve tank of diesel exhaust fluid in 998 miles or the car won’t start.” Ack. We called the owners, and they wanted to have us drop the car off at their dad’s in Grants Pass, and rent another one for the rest of the trip. We went to Medford, dilled around a bit trying to rent a car, finally went to a Napa and had a guy fill the reserve-used half of what we bought. (which lasted until we got to Lincoln City…) Finally got underway after 1, easy drive down to Berkeley-boring, though. Foggy. Had dinner at a diner, and Colin drove part of the way to Berkeley. He finally bailed after dark and fast and heavy traffic on the 80. He did ok, though…good practice for L.A. Got to the hotel, collapsed.
Sunday, 12/19Got up, missed in-hotel breakfast. Walked to Bette’s and had a very expensive and delicious brunch. Back home, drove across the bridge to Pier 39. Walked around a bit, had soup, then back to the room. Went to Zachary’s for dinner. Another delicious meal. Went to an adorable tiny Target store-it has everything you need and nothing else.
Monday, 12/20Got up, back to Bette’s for breakfast, except not the pancake souffle-bagel, and awesome cream cheese. On the road, stopped at Tracy to get gas and go to the Ghirardelli outlet. Onward-all the way to Pasadena. Erika drove a little, such a boring drive. Get to the hotel, the reservation was messed up, had to redo. Into the room, the Karen downstairs complained about the noise not 5 minutes after we got there. Erika bailed, we went to the Hilton. Hung out with Mom for a little, back to the room. Left Matt and Colin there. Everyone got to spend one night in the hotel.
Tuesday, 12/21Got coffee, got the car for Colin-he’s meeting a friend from Escondido. He set off, we ate and set off for Hollywood, walked around the Chinese and such, then drove to Long Beach. It was long, going through Beverly Hills and the 405 south. Went to Supermex for lunch-utterly delicious. So much better than the Mexican places here. Went to Polly’s for coffee and peanuts-chatted with the owner, Domenico’s to get salad dressing, then walked along the beach and got sand and shells. Drove home after messing around trying to get clothes. Remarkably easy drive. Stopped by mom’s, then to the Hat. Got the sandwiches, then a hassle with drinks. Colin came home-had a good day-he ate a whole pastrami sandwich. Didn’t like driving to Newport, but had fun visiting the VS’s at the malls there with his friend.
Wednesday,12/22Returned the rental, drove mom to the mountains to scope out where to scatter Dad’s ashes. We think the place was closed, but found a better place nearby…and I still think we didn’t get the exact place-no worries. Nice dinner of Monterey Sunday Supper. Ran to the Target to buy undies.
Thursday, 12/23Got ready to go, said bye to mom, visited Chinatown and Olvera Street, had lunch at Philippe’s, went to Little Tokyo. Colin was in his element. It was rainy. Had to drive back to mom’s to get Salem’s water bottle. Got expensive gas and left. Rainy, slow going, then dark and rainy. Got snacks, then more driving on the 10 in the dark, then the 62 in the dark. Rather unpleasant. Got to Yucca Valley, got food, visited, went to the place. Cute, tiny, in the middle of nowhere. Collapsed.
Friday, 12/24Had breakfast at a cafe-meh. Drove around some, went to Walmart, got my booster. Went to a pioneer town movie set. Had burgers for dinner-meh.
Saturday, 12/25Christmas Day-got up, exchanged presents, mellow. Matt got me Chartreuse. Ate dinner, back to the house. Drove Colin to Palm Springs and spent the night. It was windy.
Sunday, 12/26Got up early, dropped off Colin at the airport. Back to the hotel, slept a little. Drove back after a maps hiccup, packed, another cafe, bought coffee, said goodbye, drove to Solvang. Nice drive, surprisingly little traffic-went 10/210/5/126/101. Got to the hotel, ate at the restaurant, collapsed.
Monday, 12/27Up, drove to Solvang, got coffee and breakfast . Walked around, it was rainy. Looked at stuff, a couple of museums, the mission, an ostrich farm, a big sandwich for lunch. Pizza for dinner.
Tuesday, 12/28Packed up, got snacks, coffee, gas. Drove up the 101. Stopped at several missions-Erika got on a mission kick. Ended up in Gilroy, ate dinner, collapsed.
Wednesday,12/29Up, breakfast at the hotel, garlic shop and Salvation Army for swim clothes. Decided to go the 101 the whole way because of weather. Drove to SF, dropped off Erika at the mission in the Mission, drove to the Haight and looked at Janis Joplin’s house-pink. The Dead house is purple. Picked up Erika, drove down Divisadero to the Presidio and across the bridge. Rainy. Stopped for lunch at in ‘n out in Ukiah, drove all the way through to Eureka. Saw some big trees and elk. Rainy, dark, twisty. Got to a super cute hotel, snacks for dinner. Sat in the huge grotto-like hot tub/pool. Collapsed-my brain is mush after all that difficult driving.
Thursday, 12/30Up, breakfast at the cafe next door. Dilled around trying to find stuff. Got gas, then off-the 101 is a lovely drive, but less than fun after dark. Ate at a DQ. Visited the redwoods on a side drive-spectacular. Drove in the dark and wet to Lincoln City. Ate at a crappy fish place. Collapsed. This seems to be a pattern. Matt got a room of his own.
Friday, 12/31Up, breakfast at a nice cafe. Drove to the beach, walked around a bit. Got gas, on the road. A nice drive up the 18-a little snow on the side of the road was it. Stopped at the Korean market in Tigard. Home! Unpacked, did laundry. Lazed, got food. The house was hot, as the maintenance guys came during the week and turned on the heat.

And that was that! Really no time to truly rest and relax. Enjoyable nonetheless. Glad to have Colin with us, if only for a week.

I need a vacation

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

Happy new year. Nothing changes on new year’s day. We’ll see how this year goes. The last couple have been challenging…but time marches onward, and you have to take things as they come. I have problems with accepting changing plans, so.

Wednesday afternoon (11/24) before Thanksgiving. Busy getting stuff done-made a lot of progress this sprint-the app is running front to back with no errors-missed out on one story, but I should make some progress on that on Monday if no one bothers me. Went to the doc Monday, got a scrip for high BP. Hopefully it will work with few side-effects and no fainting after workouts (my BP drops after working out…) Also the flu and shingles shots-I felt like shit yesterday. Erika got on me about not getting the Covid booster-not with flu and shingles too, thankyouverymuch. No Mr. Duck yet today. Listening to Glass, Eno on Spotify.

Sunday evening, in bed. Not much happening, pretty quiet for Thanksgiving. The usual, shop, run around yesterday, tidy today. I have a new to me burr grinder and a rice cooker. Worked out Friday and today after a little break. Lazy Thurs and Fri., worked a little, talked to mom, switched car insurance to USAA. BP is trending down. Watched the last episode of Picard.

Thursday afternoon (12/2), listening to the Mark Mothersbaugh interview. Not much else, worked out Tuesday, trying to keep everything tidy, doing laundry, working hard. Took Colin and Jasmine to get a Christmas tree last night and to Cost Plus and Menchie’s afterwards.

Monday noon. (12/6) Did a demo that I found about Friday. Went well. Pretty quiet, shopping, Salem to skate, Worked out both Friday and Sunday-a 5k yesterday. And…C got dumped by his GF. He’s devastated. I know this well. She moved out. So he’s coming with us to Cali. He spent the night Saturday. This is super hard for him. We’re supporting him through it-this is super tough. BP isn’t trending down-my diastolic is sub-80, but systolic still up around 150. Post-workout is super low, though…

And now it’s January (1/3) Totally bagged this. I’ll post another with the trip time line. The 2 weeks before were pretty quiet-busy working and getting ready for the trip. Colin came with us, we borrowed a larger car. Forget what else happened.

It’s fall and the holidays are upon us

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

Here we are on the run up to Thanksgiving and Christmas. My oldest son hates this time of year-all the enforced cheer and such, plus the cold and rain-he works outside. Don’t know what else-it’s been busy at work, everyone is doing all right-the cold and wet is here. I watch it while I’m working. Also thinking about all my stuff-what to trim, what I really really need. Over the years I’ve tried to figure out what the bottom line is, and have lists, but drawing the line is not easy. Oh well-onward. Not much to say about the wider world and such-we’re not making it easy on ourselves. Listened to a thing by the Theosophical Society-basically our work is never done, it just shifts. It made me think about how our perceptions shift.

Monday 9/26. It’s rainy and cool today, Mr. Duck is here. We’re feeding him duck chow now. He comes most every morning, though a little later today. Busy working, trying to get stuff finished. Yesterday was mellow, listened to church an hour late, ate, went to the libe and the binz, shopping, Mike’s, workout, dinner, TV, bed. Salem was sore because of skating on Saturday.

Monday night, time for bed. Dad died today. Sis said he wasn’t improving, and the nurse told her it was only a few days or weeks, and this was the end anyways. So we turned off the oxygen and it was this afternoon-lots of morphine, so no struggle, but a fuzzy ending. Mom couldn’t stay in the room, so sis was. Good for her. We’re going down at Christmas and will probably spread his ashes by the creek in the mountains where he liked to fish. I said the first phrases of the Bardo in the hope he would hear it and take the first exit. Requiescat in pace, you were a good guy and a fine father. Too bad about the dementia at the end.

Tuesday night. In bed with the tablet, time for sleep. Busy day of meetings, but got stuff done too. Rainy during the day. Ran outside because it was cool, fast pace, even with the hills-10:55! I’ve been doing 12 on the treadmill…is that right? Treadmill translates to a minute faster on the road? Good workout, need to up some weights, I’m working hard with the 2 up/4 down super perfect Nautilus form-thinking of trying the 30/10/30 Darden thing. Decent t’ai chi-28 mins.

Thursday in bed, time to sleep. Busy day, working on a production release that will take all weekend.  At least it isn’t time consuming… Quiet yesterday, cool, rainy, got stuff done, watched Fifth Element with Salem.

Next Wednesday (10/6) Time is flying by. Pretty much as usual. Erika’s planning our trip to SoCal. I upped my distance on the road on Fri. and Sun.-5k plus!-it was nice so I went out rather than to the gym-to the gym yesterday as it was rainy. I’ve also upped my weights. Took Erika to a rally Sat., picked her up, then Salem to roller derby camp. Did a screening, got a free BP cuff. The BP was super high, but came back to normal in the end.

Friday afternoon (10/8.) Monday night-pretty quiet weekend-tidied and put away a/c Saturday, lazy Sunday. Not much else-5k both workout days, long t’ai chi, Salem walked with me today. It’s getting into Fall. Planning our trip-changing it up a bit.

Tuesday night-a busy day. Got stuff done. More remains. Had to take Salem to school. Unfortunately some douche broke the passenger window, so we had to clean that up before going-made them late, and me too. Spent more time later putting in a cardboard filling, then a vinyl one. Luckily we hadn’t had the windows replaced from the last vandalism yet. Had to go to the store after work, picked up Matt, no workout. Dinner, tv, bed.

Wednesday evening. Pretty quiet day. Got stuff, no, almost got stuff working. Want to do something for the talent contest. I have a week.

Thursday evening, hanging out. Not much else. Made progress, but things are still not working. Still thinking about the talent stuff.

Saturday evening, 10/16. Hanging out, Salem and Erika are at her teachers’ having a game night. Roller derby today, binz. Decided to do indoor kites for the talent thing, and maybe record something. Tidied, swept.

Sunday evening. Mathias and I went to the PSU gym and took some videos. I did some on skates too-that’s not easy-you’re always circling backwards-need more work. Other than that, lazy morning, run and workout this evening. It’s raining now. I’m keeping my pace-5k and 5.5 mph, lifting is progressing, t’ai chi is 30 mins, which is what Dr Yang suggests-my breathing and circulation is coming back too, even with the slow.

Wednesday 10/27. Sitting in bed, watching Call the Midwife.  Woo-hoo. Another week has flown, I should call this. Erika has been having spells all week, Salem has a cold and stayed out of school, me too, but I kept working. No workouts since last Friday- busy doing everything. Trying to get stuff done at work.

Mr. Duck hanging out

Friday morning. Mr. Duck is back after a bit of a hiatus. We don’t have any duck chow, so it’s bird seed. He’s sitting just off the porch. Erika didn’t have a spell yesterday, and seems fine today. Salem is dressed like a Call the Midwife midwife for school Halloween.

Back after a bit of a hiatus. (11/13) Busy at work, not much else. We have rats. Switched to internet only. Took a week off working out. Don’t like running in the dark.

Wednesday (11/17) morning. Listening to a meeting. Big fun. Not much happening-worked out last night-running intervals. Getting sore very quickly afterwards, and didn’t sleep well too-restless. I think I’ll call this. Not much over the weekend-tidying, workouts, shopping, Salem to roller derby, fighting with her about schoolwork, not much else…some fun-thought about “what is my job” while I was tidying. Concluded I have many jobs at various levels, that everything is grouped in threes, and that our skull is a tin foil hat. Funny how that works. It’s windy. Drove Colin around some a few weeks ago-he went to a con-quite the anime fashion cosplayer. Need to switch car insurance-we did one of those driving monitors and they raised our rates $500 a year. That was a shock…

Coasting along

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

Another post with a longer interval-I’m losing interest a bit… no matter. Life is short of coasting along, with the ‘rona, everything seems a bit off. My dad is getting to the end. Work is tough, my wife has this rare migraine thing, but the day to day is pretty stable. I’m losing a bit of energy too, and it’s tough if I shop all day-shopping drains me a lot. Anyways, not horrible, but not great. I daydream a lot. Not sure what else to say.

Wednesday afternoon-having lunch. Cherries from the Milwaukie Market. Put together S’s bed last night-removed all the energy I needed for running, so running was unpleasant. Didn’t stop for a breather, just upped my breathing tempo. Lightened weights, sharpened form too, but missed a cloud hands in the 3rd section of a faster t’ai chi.

Saturday afternoon on the porch, it’s a lovely warm day. We have new upstairs neighbors-young kids. The former tenants left a car in their spot and it just got towed. E had a hemiplegic migraine today but caught it early so no hospital visit. Good workout last night-M came for the weights. Walked Thursday and picked blackberries along the way, more to come. Want a thing, not yet.

Sunday noon, sitting in the ER, E had another, and realized the neuro doctor wanted to see her if it happened again. So we went to OHSU. Got into a bed in the hallway and the episode ended, so we left.  Whole BowlWoodstock market, home.

Tuesday afternoon. Time for lunch. I’m home alone, which is nice. Daydreaming about alternate pasts. I have thought about the various turning points in my life, and what would’ve happened if they had come out differently. Kind of fun. Finished up Sunday working out, and the learning disabled boy saw me going into the gym and watched me almost the whole time. Sad, that. E had a minor attack yesterday, resolved quickly. Talked to mom-she’s putting dad in a home-just can’t take care of him anymore. Just a bad situation. She’s excited that we’re coming down for Christmas.

Thursday after noon. I’ve resurrected the Morning Websites, so this is part of it. Good workout Tuesday-t’ai chi is solid, pushing a little on run and weights. Have a slightly different recording method-using Strava to get there. Went to a music thing at church last evening-some guy who was a Christian Rockstar came out-he’s doing bitty church things now. Yawn-so one-dimensional. Same 3 chords, same key, same tempo, same everything. Ok singer, if you like singer-songwriter stuff, which I don’t.

Wednesday (7/28), work is done. Pretty busy, got a few things done already this sprint. Not much this weekend. Went to night skate on Friday, was super sore but skated well. Skipped Sunday and yesterday workouts, going to go now. Not much else. S is doing roller derby camp this week. They’re super sore and tired.

Thursday after work (ish). Worked out last night, got M to do t’ai chi. Busy on work problems.

Late Friday night. Time for bed. Messes at work, went to Gaffer’s for dinner, then pie. No workout. C came over with gf-he got S from Oaks Park and fed them. I’m 60 today-woo-hoo. Don’t feel it. Had a Guinness too. House needs to get worked on. S is going to camp for the day.

Late Monday afternoon, work is done. Need to go for a walk and pick blackberries. Quiet weekend-shopping, worked out Saturday, picked up S from camp, watching random Olympic sports. E found my birthday present-works on the tab, now to check the laptop. (worked on the laptop)

Late Tuesday, all done with work. Got stuff done. Time to go to the gym. Got 250 steps in almost all day! Woo-hoo! E is going out with friends. Walked last night, got a bunch of blackberries. Not much else. Daydreaming about alternate pasts, land, things.

Wednesday, late afternoon. Running an app on a new server, waiting to see if it fails. So far so good. Got some stuff done, but not enough. Lots to do. Good workout last night-nice and slow t’ai chi-23 mins. Dr. Yang says a half-hour. Still progressing… E went out with friends and I cooked before working out. She got back about 11. Slept ok.

Tuesday the 10th. Sitting at Doernbecher taking Colin to a urology visit, because Erika is home with a hemiplegic migraine. Not much else-shopping and tidying on the weekend- had to work Saturday morning and a little on Sunday night. Olympics are over-Tour of Spain now. Going to be hot this week- girls are going to Washington for the weekend-Matt and I need to take stuff to the dump.

Gonna be hot! Wednesday noon. Good workout last night, not much else. I’m staying pretty consistent with workouts, but the Fitbit is a pain- not much battery life- the joy of binz stuff. Maybe I’ll get one off of ebay…

Monday 8/16. Busy weekend moving beds and tossing stuff. Sat-pull ours and S’s beds apart, move hers to ours, stack ours. Put together S’s new frame, put it all together. This after cleaning both areas. Sun-walk to get a van, M and I packed it, to the dump, return van, walk home. E and S were with their teacher and daughter in WA over the weekend. The moms drank a lot. Matt and I had to do all the stuff. Was very hot last week, but not so much now. Afghanistan has fallen. Played my guitar late Fri. and Sat. Worked out Fri., bagged yesterday because of all the work and walking I did.

Thursday 8/19. Jeez, that went quick. Lacking energy- should’ve worked out yesterday, didn’t. Took S to a local skate park Tuesday so no workout. Shitbit isn’t holding up. Not much else. E&S&C&J went to the Clackamas County fair.

Wednesday, 8/25. Hanging out with Salem in our bed. They’ve been sleeping in the closet the past few weeks-Colin did the same thing. Not much happening-not really motivated at work, but the house is clean. Worked out yesterday, shopping over the weekend. Walking, picking blackberries.

And here it is Labor Day weekend-I should call this. Trying to walk or run every day-work is doing a fitness challenge… Not a lot else, some a-hole upstairs dumped a bunch of smelly water on our porch, so we had to clean up and toss the carpet. School work day, shop and binz over the weekend. Got my work stuff done, mostly.

Sunday of a long weekend, it’s warm and we pulled the a/c from the bedroom. Salem is going through their stuff. I’m trying to clean the house. Up late last night. Erika had an episode this morning. Shopping yesterday-looking for a new desk and chair for Salem. Got almost all my work done-it’s in, but I need to find a way to see if it’s running and get access.

Later on, took Mathias & Salem to see Shang-Chi. I got a smoothie for wife and went shopping. Made yummy shawarma from a sauce from Cost Plus. Did laundry-couldn’t work out because no clean gear.

It’s now the end of September. (9/26) I should call this… OK, so my mom put my dad in a care place, and he promptly got sick. Sis came out- she’s retired, so it’s less of a burden. He might be getting better, but you never know. He doesn’t have ‘rona, probably pneumonia. I don’t think I’m going down-Erika keeps having episodes, and I can’t really chance it. Tried to walk more as there’s a work walk challenge-did a bit more than normal. Otherwise the usual-work, workout, shopping. Trying to stay consistent. It was tough on Friday- walked half rather than running. A couple of car crashes close by. Trying to help Colin and jasmine when we can. Finally got the house vacuumed-Salem’s stuff is everywhere. They’re having conflicts with Erika. Went to a show with Salem-their first! Not my style-acoustic folk style. Taught Salem a few self- defense moves. They’re hugging a lot. And skating some, went to roller derby camp today. Had yummy gyros for dinner.

Well-this is an interval-2 months? No worries-like I always say, I’m the only one who looks at this… I suppose in some future time that may change, but right now no one cares about my exciting life. It is nice to have a record of the time, so when I get old I can read about it. Not much going on-we were planning to take a real vacation, but changed to spending the holidays in L.A. I haven’t taken a real vacation since the 80’s skiing at Winter Park after hanging out with Al in Vail and doing a bunch of coke. Aaaah, those were the days.

Been slacking on this…(5/13) 2nd shot last week, was awfully foggy the next day. Working the fitbit, meals and everything. Hopefully I’ll lose some weight-walking or running every day. Making progress-on the way to 11 min miles. Need to start the weights and t’ai chi. Not much else, work, that’s it. E had bad vertigo and slurred speech last week-spent a night in the hospital-not sure what caused it. Read Moon is a Harsh Mistress for the first time. Need to clean this weekend. E fixed up the back porch. Filed my taxes…M and C too. C is working at Vicky’s. E got me a iPod Nano for running-it’s adorable and perfect. Been thinking what I would take if I was leaving for the job at AIM now…

Sat. afternoon, sitting on the porch. S got their shot today. Not much else-tough run last night, TJ’s Indian food after. Late deployment/test, checked another one today-looks fine.  Starting tidy. Warm today. Going to visit parents end of month. Done with tidy-only bathroom left.

Sunday noon, drinking coffee on the porch. E is at a funeral. Hanging out in a new to me happi coat-it’s all like little adverts from a Chinese newspaper. Bright, sunny day, probably going to be warm.

Wednesday early evening, walked, it was cold. Nice, though.  Another usual week,  S got skates. C is probably moving out and in with gf. Visiting parents next weekend.

Sunday late afternoon, hanging out. Worked some Friday night, yesterday and today.  Went to a protest with E yesterday, Ikea, yummy burger. Watched John Wick 3 last night.  Went skating with M & S today, finished up work. No running Friday or today. Not much else.

Monday evening, watching curling. Didn’t walk because it was raining. Tuesday after work. Getting used to the swipe way of writing. Need to go run. Rainy all day.

Wednesday evening, June 2nd, almost bedtime.  Been very hot the past 2 days. Not so bad now-I sealed everything up at about noon. Busy weekend,  flew down to LA to visit my parents. Super early flight both Friday and Monday-lost a lot of sleep. Other than that, pretty quiet, hanging out with mom, dad sleeps a lot. E had one of those dizzy episodes Friday morning. Went to the Hat Saturday afternoon. Walked around the block every evening. No running since last Tuesday. Hopefully it will be cooler Friday. Played with the QY100 on the flight down.  Need to do that more.

Saturday the 5th, afternoon, hanging on the porch. E got me a Jamba juice. It’s a lovely day. Ran last night-faster. Went to a higher breathing rate-more o2=faster? Maybe-it works for climbers on Everest in the death zone, why not me??? Slowly tidying. Not much else.

Thursday evening, 6/10. Not much happening, E got a gift from her sister. We might have enough for a house on FHA. Been cool and nice for walking and running. Got a new desk for work, replaced the kitchen table. M is getting a new bed.

And here it is, July 4th weekend. Totally been ignoring this. Not like much has been going on, though…except for the heat wave last week-it was a furnace out there. Kept it pretty cool in the house, so not horrendous. Visited the office, had a whole bowl for lunch. E had another dizzy episode Friday and spent the afternoon in the ER. Been slacking on pretty much everything else. Rick and Morty is back, bike racing is on. Consolidated more on the tablet. Got a new fridge today-old one was keeping fridge too cold, freezer too warm. A condo collapsed in Miami.

Sunday the 4th-Happy Treason Day! I wonder what things would be like if the Revolution hadn’t happened… So, worked out at the gym Friday night-not so easy on the treadmill, sore arms. Busy running around yesterday and today. S’s bed has mold on the bottom-sprayed it with bleach, got a frame-doesn’t quite work. Watched bike racing, went to the market and binz-got another running shirt.

Wednesday evening, watching the Tour. Nice day, went for a walk. Skated with S last night at the park after working out. Feeling better on the treadmill. T’ai chi-not so much. Have to look it up. Still watching my food. E tidied her area a bit, then the outside closet.

Tuesday morning (7/13), in a sprint planning meeting. Been busy-ish, need to call this. Pretty quiet-just exercising and trying to keep things going. We’re thinking of going to L.A. for Christmas. Library is open, went to the market Sunday. More Tour, Haiti got an evacuation order from the security newsletter I get (from the Huron days!), Rick and Morty, work, skating with S trying to get them ready for roller derby camp. Slowly losing weight.

My little part of the planet

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

A longer interval, there’s not much happening. Post- traumatic former guy disorder has kicked in. At least one cop has to pay the price. Working, running, that’s it. At least in my little part of the planet.

Thursday evening-time to go get M. The usual. Need to do some stuff. Trying to settle into using the tablet, plus also the mini BT keyboard. I may start writing more if I get used to it.

Thursday afternoon (3/4). In a meeting-pretty quiet day. Had to get up early to get S to school. Need to do laundry.

Laundry got done. Friday evening. Got most everything done. Plus also benefits. Watching robot fighting.

Monday (3/8) afternoon. Almost done.  Tuesday afternoon.

Bagged this for a bit. Busy working and the usual. Doing another big picture transfer. Not much happening.

Thursday afternoon (3/18). Working through a very long and tedious production deployment. But it’s Spring-the ducks are back. Really not much other than work, and lazy. Boat racing is over-the Kiwis won, and the Brits almost immediately challenged. Trying to tidy up while I’m waiting for these runs to happen. I’ve been lazy on more. Got my stimulus $$$.

Ducks
Welcome back, Mr. and Mrs. Duck!

Thurs. evening. Finally got the production deployment done. Time to chillax. (Friday-had to make some emergency panic tweaks)

Wednesday late afternoon (3/24)-time to be done. The usual-not much else. I did empty out the closet, and it’s still moldy in that back corner-bleach kills it right away. All the clothes are done, but all the stuff is still piled up. Didn’t do much else. Getting near the end of the endless picture transfer-then books and music.

Monday evening (3/29). On the tablet, got all the pics and books on. Not much-ran Friday-short, was sore. Got a deployment done, more to come. Pretty lazy, a bit done. Not much to say.

And now it’s mid-April (Friday 4/16) Not much more-busy at work- messes-lazy otherwise.  Been running, started walking, put the fitbit on, logging food and sleep. Got the first vaccine-Moderna-at Grand Ronde with the boys. E got her second and was down for a day. Ours is May 5th…

April 23rd, Friday. Pretty quiet. Busy at work, lazy otherwise- did get the house tidied last weekend. E is watching a ton of k-drama. Reading dune.

Monday 4/27. Quiet weekend-cleaned, E & S went to a thing in Salem with teacher. A thing, shop, run, that’s it. Went downtown today for a work thing. On to Dune Messiah. Calling it.

Links/viddys-brighter side: maps.

Page 23, sentence 5: “He pulled a shield belt from the table, buckled it fast around his waist.” Dune.

All quiet…in that quiet earth.

Well, an almost 2 month span. Been a lot going on, but still in the holding pattern of ‘rona. At least we have a mellower presidency. Not going to say much-seems to have lost some intensity.

Friday evening, 1/8. Boy, what a week! Who knows where this ends, but it’s not entirely surprising. Fanatics will do anything to keep their worldview intact, and when someone eggs them on, bloody massacres and genocide results. No shortage of examples. Just gotta make sure you’re not caught in the crossfire.

Sunday evening. Got stuff done. Got a nice bottle of champagne for the 20th and a small absinthe-so intense. M got a small bottle of bacon vodka and some bloody mix. So much political mess.

Tuesday noon. Got a Warcraft-ish app, busy playing that. The endless photo sortation is almost done. Need to load more music on my phone too. C’s laptop is dying. Parler got dumped from AWS, and everything got scraped. Can’t figure out how to get to the data, though-it should be on archive.org…but it’s not.

Wednesday afternoon. Politics is looking like the waning days of Nixon’s term-Repubs are running away from the Prez. The FBI is def. going after people. The only difference this time is that the base is not budging from their brainwashing. Not surprising, that-during Nixon’s era, this utter loyalty and broad based fanaticism didn’t exist. A consequence of Fox News and their ilk, social media, and the hardening of political boundaries.

Thursday evening. Working on the last photo task-longish one too.

Sunday afternoon. Continuing the last photo task.

Tuesday evening, sitting in bed, hanging out with wife. Getting through the last pics, need to write a bitty app to randomize the names to they’re not all in the same place. Then it’s finishing up the music. Waiting for dinner to cook. Got all the tidying done yesterday, work today-didn’t want to get up. Inauguration tomorrow-it’s at 9, so can’t drink anything much-mimosa and cheap splits.

Dinner is over, time to clean up and do the bedtime thing. E is in the bath-we’re watching endless Call the Midwife. Waiting for the next boat race-the Yanks put a big hole in their boat Saturday. Also waiting for my left pinky nail to fall off-bashed it awhile back and the new nail is coming in.

Thursday evening-1/21. Just finished a day-long deployment, rework, redeploy, and rerun tasks. My eyes hurt. E had a bad day-vertigo, bad dreams. Yesterday was super nice-up early to watch the inauguration from bed, mimosas with cheap bubbly. Work, then dinner-prime rib, potatoes, brussels sprouts, and absolutely amazing champagne-a 2010 Joseph Perrier Esprit De Victoria brut rose. Haven’t had that level of quality since London in the 80’s… Watched C-SPAN with S later into the night-Pres. & VP laying a wreath at the Unknowns with the other 3 Pres’s that are worth something and able to travel, 21-gun salute, driving back to the WH and walking the last bit, walking up the stairs of the Capitol beforehand. C-SPAN is so awesome because no commentary. Q folks are melting down.

Tuesday 26th, midmorning. Noon. No time yet to do this. Tuesday evening. Maybe later? Didn’t happen. Wednesday midday-not much going on. Didn’t do much over the weekend-cleaned our bathroom and that’s it. Need to do laundry. Dr’s Monday-got my growth frozen off, and a bunch of blood taken-looks like my cholesterol is elevated. BP too. Getting caught up on Snowpiercer. Watching skiing. And…they offered me full-time at work! We’ll see if they take my salary offer (didn’t, but got a little extra at the start).

Monday morning. Afternoon. Wednesday morning. Played my guitar last night-mostly old 70’s rock-that old girl has fabulous tone. S was curious and played a little after I was done. Lazy weekend. Took Friday off-we went down to Woodburn and got new Converses. Got in-n-out too. Went to Fry’s on the way home-they’ve blocked off half and rearranged things, but it was still deserted-I found out that they’re selling everything on consignment, which is insane.

Saturday afternoon (2/6). Up late, slept in. Tidied. Sunday afternoon, watched Mission Impossible 2nd season last night, had a whiskey sour, meeting today with S’s teacher. Laundry, lunch, needed a nap, didn’t get it. Some sportsball thing today.

Wednesday morning, making coffee. Now noon. Thursday afternoon-they’re saying it’s going to snow-no snow yet.

Friday morning-it’s snowing. About 2 inches on the ground. A layer of ice underneath.

Tuesday afternoon (3/2). I’ve really been slacking on this. I have no idea what happened for the past 2 weeks. The snow/icepocalypse, working, getting ready for FTE, that’s about it. We got Android tablets and E is returning hers after 1 day. Been on and off with tidying and cpap. Talked to my sleep doc. Maybe I should call this.

Not so bright: don’t even want to go there (especially now).

Page 23, sentence 5: “My book is not a history.” The Technological Society.

Quiet, not so quiet.

All right-time to call this. Been one of those cycles-not unusual over Christmas. So tired of politics and crazy people. That includes the orange menace. At least the major part will be over in a few weeks. And legislation will get moved forward.

Friday evening (12/4). Time for bed. Sat. noon. Sat night, Sun. night. Monday morning. Monday evening. Tuesday morning-maybe I’ll write something today. Tuesday afternoon-no time yet. Wednesday evening. Thursday morning-so tired. Thursday evening-one of these days I’ll do this.

Ok, later Thursday. Doing a long-term photo cull, so time for a break. Same ‘ol-work, not work. My Gecho got shipped. Shopping, taking S to school. Not much else. Been chilly, not working out. Christmas is coming-E is shopping. Got a tree and a blow-up Santa for the back. Keeping the house tidy-vacuumed, bagging the budget. Doing my laundry and towels only.

Late Friday night-stayed up watching robot fighting and film clips. Pizza for dinner. Got all the work stuff done. Picked up M and got coffee. So, so exciting.

Next Friday. Pretty quiet week-running up to Christmas. Boat racing is back. Got my Gecho-it’s tiny and adorable-going to treat it as a Christmas gift to myself. Really need a case for my Kronos, but only when we move or I gig with it… Not much over last weekend-lazy, shop. Some stuff to do this weekend. Had a full night on the mask-kept waking up and going back to sleep. Not easy, this. Got some Ouzo, M got peppermint schnapps. And the electoral college confirmed Biden-no surprise there, but a lot of hoopla over an utterly boring and predictable thing. Next is the Congress approval. Again, utterly boring and predictable, except for this time. That and the cv-19 vaccine is out-I need to get a flu shot first.

Sunday evening. Time for closing up shop. Another typical weekend-tidied, cleaned on Sat. (with music and landscape videos), shop Sun.-got some nice wine. Running up to Christmas. Put up a huge chime E got. Talked to Mom. Binged some Rick & Morty last night. Slept in.

And now it’s New Year’s Day. Sat and shifted pictures. Mom called this morning. Short on the mask-half asleep and didn’t get the time right-3 days to go until the 10th. Christmas was fine-we did the binz thing with M, off Thursday and Friday, work is fine-got a free day. Not much else-it’s been wet and cold. We didn’t do menus and I haven’t done budget. Next 2 weeks are super short. Got a new phone, gave S mine. Failed to get a good backup, had to reinstall everything.

Nothing changes on New Year’s Day.

Saturday afternoon. Time to call this. Lazy day-still in pj’s, made rice late, slept in. Swept the kitchen, put away dishes. Bathrooms, then vacuum? Or laundry. E’s been bingeing Yellowstone-basically Dallasty with cows.

Thursday, late morning. Noon. Didn’t call it. Sort of busy working. Been pretty quiet here, not so much elsewhere. This is the odd part-most of the country/world is pretty quiet, but there are places that aren’t. At least one more ceremonial task is done. Again, a normally boring, utterly routine part of the transfer of power has been made exciting by morons and troublemakers. I’ll be glad when this is over. At least Georgia came through, so there’s a chance legislation will get a chance.

Tidied and vacuumed, cleaned up some over the weekend. Watched some of Up In Smoke last night. Earache My Eye is still a classic bit. I only heard the coda, called “Turn That Thing Down“, a few years ago-pretty decent, if you like that style-it’s all Hendrix-y, phased and dive-bombs.

“Watch me burn!”

And I didn’t mention that Eddie Van Halen died when it happened. Yeah, sad, but not a surprise-it’s been quite a year for rock stars dying. I loved the music of the DLR era-saw them open for Black Sabbath in Cleveland, but never got into learning the guitar style-he was a master of the fill, overshadowed by all the flashy stuff.

Not quite time to exhale.

Well, it’s the start of December, and the shouting about the election isn’t over. Trump et alia is still whining, and failing at making a dent, other than riling up the base. Read an article about how Trump is peak camp, I don’t disagree, but he’s still damaging. Okay-trying to stay out of it until Jan 20th… Not much else-CV-19 is ongoing, everything is basically on pause until the vaccines are in distribution. Have my contract until April, so I can hang on, unlike a lot of people.

Election Day. Don’t really want to work. Cold, tired, it’s wet outside, and dark early, so I don’t really want to run either. E found a fitbit at the binz…pretty cool-we’ll see if it helps. Doesn’t do heart rate, which is what I really want.

Thursday afternoon. Just finished lunch, guys came to fix the bathroom shower pipes-meh job. Got my cpap-we’ll see how that goes. Don’t want to think about the elections.

Friday afternoon, trying to make progress. Now evening-need to run. It’s cold and wet and dark-never a good combination. Maybe I’ll jump rope instead. Got stuff done, though. One refactor to do. Not tonight. Wore the cpap last night-really not fun-panicked for a few minutes-it feels like you can’t breathe out. Got an hour in-just couldn’t get to sleep with it on-needed to get up this morning. Try again tonight-we’ll see.

Monday noon, so, so tired. I tried to get to sleep for 4 hours last night. Failed-dozed maybe once or twice. Just laid there thinking and listening to my breathing, adjusting the mask, turning over. Bagged running last night. Not much over the weekend-tidy Sat., switched bookshelves Sun.-got a few more books jammed in there. Most of Saturday was spent watching BBC News-they called Pennsylvania, and celebrations erupted worldwide-looks like the markets like it too-plus the speeches, and the whole Four Seasons thing.

Wednesday morning. Thursday afternoon. Later Thursday afternoon. Thursday evening. Friday morning. Friday afternoon. (Am I going to write anything today???) Nope. Monday morning. Start of sprint. Busy Friday, Quiet-ish weekend. Shop yesterday, laundry & tidy Sat. Mellow week too-mostly struggling to sleep with the cpap-just massive loss of sleep. I gave up after 2 hours last night. Changed to the bigger mask and that was better, shaved close, but it’s just so loud. I think I’ll try earplugs again. So, so hard. Got my contract renewed, though. Noon. I’m still not feeling well-M isn’t either.

Tuesday, end of work. E got a new keyboard for me-you can run it under a faucet. Rough, rough night last night. Decided to get to sleep, then put on the mask-instead didn’t get to sleep until 2, and woke up every time I dreamed. So 5 dreams listed. Blech. Going to reset my sleep schedule before trying the mask again.

Friday, in the scrum. Pretty quiet week. Finally slept OK last night-melatonin and valerian-woke up at 2 then right back to sleep until 7-dozed until 9-I’ll try the mask tonight. Neighbors across the way are moving out after 3-4 months-usually means the house purchase finally closed. The guys moved an upright piano. Got it down, but def. not a professional job-glad all I have is a synth and guitar stuff…and no stairs. Buy a case, roll it around-no problemo. Need to work on some projects-min list for a hasty departure, full personal and house inventories. Plus also bill pays, and maybe senior page and bio edits.

Tuesday morning. No bill pays, but bought a car on Saturday. S emptied out their room. Tried the nose thing-didn’t work. Still having trouble sleeping.

Wednesday afternoon-got the OK to quit early. Finishing up deployment and unit test coding. Got a Gecho yesterday…

Friday afternoon. Lazy day. Up super late last night, got up super late. M made beignets. Nice Thanksgiving-M and I cooked-everything came out well. Tidied, vacuumed, put stuff in the closet, S’s stuff in the hallway, watched crap movies. C and gf came over, both have to work today. Contemplating getting iPads for E and me.

And #diaperdon is trending on Twitter. No one is walking on eggshells any more.

Monday, start of sprint. No really motivated. Haven’t been exercising-contemplating going to Planet Fitness when it opens. Lack of sleep isn’t helping. A typical weekend-shop-Fubonn, Cost Plus, made chinese dinner Sat., watched Dune, more shop Sun. (E got a waffle iron, getting xmas presents) and struggle to get to sleep with the mask on-not easy…I think I’ll call this-been long enough.

Stay gone, or you be gone. AKA Winter in America.

The day before the election. Woo-hoo. I’m done. I just deleted a big thing, but the last word is this: enough. Just go away. Stay gone, or you be gone. Hopefully they’ll get the hint. Hopefully we can make it through this winter intact. Or is it this? Hope not.

Friday afternoon, eating prior to a code review. Waiting on dba’s to do their job. Been waiting. For 2 days. I hate dba’s. F’n database high priests. Mainframe and database BS… Anyways-code review, almost time to be done.

And now it’s Monday morning, the stuff that needed to be done-one got done, the other is in process. Pretty mellow weekend-didn’t get to vacuuming, again, but laundry and the kitchen did. Lazed around Sat.-Costco was it, Sun.-E got a chair in Lake O, Sun. market, shop, Fry’s is empty, Sonic, got the furniture rearranged. Trump’s got the ‘rona-what a shitshow.

Weds., noon. No, afternoon. Almost time to be done. Had a zoom meeting with a doc-I’m getting a cpap. Should make E happy-hopefully I’ll end up sleeping better. Got some stuff done.

Friday-work week is done! Only a few minutes late. In good shape-got stuff done. I need to work out now. Not much else-forgot to make the car payment, so we’re short this week. I picked up all the stuff off the loveseat in the living room, so I can sit in here and chill. Watched Archer and Dodgeball. Maybe Snowpiercer tonight? or a movie? We’ll see.

A week has passed. Really very much the same. Been waking up at night a lot. Ambien? Melatonin and such helps me get to sleep, but I still wake up at 2ish. E tweaked her back. All of us voted yesterday when we got the ballots. Didn’t schedule meals this week. Getting carpets cleaned next week. Worked out Tues. but not Sun. Something this weekend? Who knows.

Monday, start of sprint meetings. At least I could sleep in a little. S didn’t get up in time for her Zoom class, because I didn’t wake her up. Pretty busy weekend-E to 2 marches Sat., shop Sun. C has a job, took him to gf’s house. Worked out yesterday but not Fri. Fixed my Stick last weekend-high strings don’t work-pickup, wiring or cable? Found mold in the corner, had to clean everything. With bleach. Picked up a lot and vacuumed-carpet cleaning tomorrow-more to do.

A week, it’s Thursday. Afternoon, time for lunch. A pretty quiet week, Worked out yesterday, skipped Sunday, carpet cleaning. Shopping, the usual. One of M’s co-workers got the ‘rona-he got tested yesterday. They’re pretty good with staying out of each others’ way, so we’ll see. The big thing is that I got blackmailed for naughty chat and pictures. So, I came clean to my wife, removed all the naughty stuff from my storage unit, phone and links, canceled all my accounts except the blackmailed ones-gotta keep the evidence… E wants me to go to SAA as well. I’ll try, but I have a strong mind and it may not be entirely necessary. I have discipline. If I can box that behavior, and keep it inside the box, I’m good-we’ll see. I called a investigation firm-$1,500 for them to work the case. Passed. So far, nothing has been released-it’s stressful, though.

I’ve been thinking about it, too-what power does a blackmailer have? Fear, mostly, and shame. And a short window. If they can get you to pay out quickly, they win. Otherwise the threats are hollow-and thus lies the dilemma-if they pull the trigger, no money-if they don’t, no money either, because they’ve lost the power of the threat because it didn’t work. You have to follow through, but you can’t because you won’t get paid if you do. And these guys are doing multiple prospects at once, so you have to pick the most promising mark. Most advisors say to ignore them once the threat is made. I don’t want to pull my FB account…but I may have to, or at least set it to private for a little bit. Same with twitter and google-not so easy…

Monday, new sprint. I think I’ll call this. M didn’t get the ‘rona. No blackmail. Checking on whether I get the contract renewed. Halloween was quiet, except I went to pick up C at his gf’s, and the church on the corner was going trunk or treating-\/\/hate\/er. S went to a friends’. Tidy, shop, the usual. DST switch, worked out, watched 2001 on Sat., and DRL in sim. Getting through my book backlog. Short of ca$h-I hate dipping into savings. Hopefully this next month will be better.

Waiting for gravity to catch up.

Another blog post called. Called my exciting life? Not so much. The rest of the world is pretty busy, but all I have is work and family. Having said that, I think our country is like Wile E. Coyote, having just ran off the cliff, but gravity hasn’t caught up with him yet. I had this feeling a lot in the mid-90’s, but was always able to overcome the feeling, and it never happened. Now, who knows? I’m just waiting out everything and whether my contract ends. Not much else to say-I’ve said a lot already.

Friday early evening, long weekend! Still have some work to do, so still working. Out of $$$ this week. 7:30-still working. The dude who wrote this didn’t finish it, so I need to. We needed another task to get it into running order. 8:20, got the thing running, so done.

Sunday evening, sitting in bed. Yummy dinner, church and shop today. E to March yesterday. Not much else.

Tuesday morning, start of sprint. Woke up a couple of times last night, tired. Had an interesting dream about Keanu Reeves and symbols. Those symbol dreams are happening occasionally-I think it’s a look into symbol space-I need to figure out what it means… Very windy yesterday and today-there was a big tent at school that blew away last night-E went to check on it and found a mess. Vacuum, laundry yesterday, not much else.

Smoky sky
Weds-very smoky sun and sky

Saturday afternoon. Sitting at the table, finishing up a change-wasn’t working, found the bug this morning, rerunning the task to make sure it does the right thing now. Anyways. So it’s been a week of fires. Portland has the worst air quality in the world. We have everything closed up, filters on the a/c, running the air purifier 24/7. The sun and sky are orange. We’re on a stage 1 evac, but the weather’s changing so I don’t think stage 2 will happen. The active fire zone is still 20ish miles away. My eyes and throat are burning and sore. You can still smell the smoke in here, but it’s much less than outside. And it’s oddly cool.

Got one of these in the mail Friday. It’s cool, easy to use and fun. More fun than the phone apps. Made a 8-bar loop, need to find some way to save it-Orba to Zoom to laptop? That’s the way I do it on the Kronos. I really need a 9mm adapter that’s TRRS…Radio Shack here I come. Wait-are there still Radio Shacks? (just checked-there’s one right down the street! sort of…)

Less smoky sky and sun
Thursday afternoon sky

Thursday afternoon. Running as fast as I can to get things done, but I’m not moving forward. (maybe a little, but still behind) The air quality still sucks, but the sky is clearing a little. Rain is coming. Busy with work, but that’s it. Stuck inside-same day, over and over. S might read Finnegan’s Wake. I think I’ll take another run at it after my latest read, which is super depressing so far… It’s an insanely difficult work.

Friday, early evening. End of sprint, but still stuff to do. Got one done, another done except the repo is whacked, and the last one almost done except for running it against AWS. Big thunderstorm last night, soaked the porch. Ruth Bader Ginsburg died today. That’s a kick in the nuts-E was bawling-glad she held out as long as this, as the GOP can’t push someone through at this late date-enough Senators will defect to make it impossible, and the same after the election. And even if it went through, Biden would likely pack the court to nullify the advantage, if he’s smart.

Monday, start of sprint. Slept in a bit. S’s first day of face-to-face school. Pretty quiet weekend-worked late Fri., lazy Sat.-E to RBG thing, a thing, picked her up. Sun. church, shop, workout! First in a month-went slow, shortened the route. Only lost strength on pull-ups-not surprising, it’s my weakest one. Was beat after that-only forgot a few t’ai chi moves, and we got through after a bit of thought. I’m only a little sore today.

Thursday morning, sitting at the kitchen table with S. Non-binary S. Not really motivated. Anyways. Another pretty normal week-worked out Tues. evening-M came with on the run. A bit faster, but still shortened-I worked harder than usual. Super weak and sore on pull-ups, only forgot one move in t’ai chi.

Monday, listening to the scrum. So exciting. OK. Quite tired. Need to go to sleep earlier. Pretty busy weekend. Got a bit done at work Friday. Ran later, it was dark when I got back. Drove around a lot Sat. E to rally on N, S to friends’ then Lloyd Center, then back to pick them up and to friends’. Gaffers for dinner + a drink and M with. I had a Myers, he had a Jack then peach schnapps. The Tigard Gaffers closed. Sun.-skipped church, lazy, shop then picked up S then lazy. Ran-very difficult-no lunch, then made dinner then worked out then ate. I think I’ll call this. Trump’s taxes got released-no real surprises…
