Find a guy Ben from college on Facebook, and his brother. Chat about it. Talk about what he’s doing (running a business back East) and some guy talks about prorated charges and he’s in the same business.

At a hotel-some convention and contest going on. I’m part of both.My parents are here and expecting to see me during it all. I wander through the crowds. Have to go to a meeting and quick over to the contest, which is over. Look at winnings, up to the elevator-push 6 and it’s locked. Many people-get out on 5 to look for parents. All around the floor, through classrooms-find them. Mom doesn’t let me in-I wait in the hallway.
A New Direction?
I really am a huge fan of Democracy Now!, but this week has been spectacularly good.
David Korten is writing great books. In this interview he outlines where things need to go to turn the problems we have around.
William Greider writes good stuff too. In this interview he does much the same as Korten does.
Read through the transcripts or listen to the interviews. We need lots of people to be aware that there are alternatives to the stale old economic policies that got us into this mess.
We also need the people in the new administration to listen too.

10:16 am-I’m finally getting around to the ’08 electoral maps.
The state-by-state map-Obama took the west, northeast tier, and made inroads in the South and Midwest.

The second is a county by county breakdown, which is a bit more revealing-it shows that Democratic voting is clustered in largely urban areas, all over the country. This time there was a bit more penetration into rural counties, central and the South.

The third is the county by county, but shaded so that the actual vote tallies, red vs blue, run along a spectrum based on percent of red vs blue.
This is much, much more revealing, and shows that the scale has tipped in favor of Obama across the board. There are very few places that weren’t fairly evenly divided Reps vs Dems. This makes for a purple map, rather than a red vs blue map.

Finally there’s the cartogram. This map has each county’s size changed to reflect the population of that county. This distorts the U.S. map to look something like some odd bird or a fish. Solid GOP is in very few places-much more solid Dem this time.

1:20 pm-Going home early-I’m sick. Finished up unit testing one bit, waiting on a response. Not much else-home, dinner, to bed. Up, kids to school, to work.

Erika’s driving-we’re trying to find a school. I look at the map and get confused. We go into a city-it’s snowy and she’s going too fast. I stick my feet over the front to help stop. We talk about where to go and stop at an office. Go in, talk to a guy then a lady. I start looking at the map and can’t find it. I look through the pictures and it’s time to go. Some lady points out a ferret family. We leave.

4:51 pm-Here we are, another work day over. They’re closing the warehouse, which is why we’re moving back to the other office. And why a lot of other things have been happening. OK. So we had a meeting, and we couldn’t come back here until they had told everyone who worked here. So we went to Fry’s and I got new earphones and 2memory chips. A few more to get-I’m trying to make a whole bunch of bootable key drives with different OSes on them. It’s going to be a lot of work. Our new camera needs one too. Not much else-to home yesterday, Erika meeting, kids to bed, watching Whatever, Martha with the baby. Matt had a hard time getting to sleep. Up today, to school, to work. Meeting, lunch, Fry’s, work. Matt had his birthday party at the local bowling alley. If I was still at Quest I could’ve gone. No matter. I need to work more substance back into these posts.
