In an office, looking for more work. The lady has waitstaff jobs, but i have no experience and ranking, and the property uses that. She gets me in and we walk over to the restaurant. It’s a nautical theme, and i get my stuff. I tie the apron up-it has shells at the end of the strings.

At work, there’s a problem with a design app. Talk to the developer, they find the problem. Walk over to their workstation and they show me-the app is written in assembler and the bug is that the return value is pushed, then the return is done with another value. The app isn’t expecting that and hangs. Sit next and watch them.

In a room, the dryer is messed up. The drum keeps coming out of the dryer. The people using it are upset. I get out all the clothes that are stuck to the inside, and start taking apart things. One of the seals looks torn and broken.

Recipe: Sweet and Sour Pork

I’ve been using this recipe for decades. It’s from a cool book called The Wok. It’s very very good.

Ingredients:
8 oz. boneless pork
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. light soy sauce
flour
egg yolk
1 firm 3″ tomato
1 3″ onion
green pepper
12 pineapple chunks
1/2 cup “sweet and sour” sauce

Cut boneless pork into 3/4″ cubes. Season with salt and soy sauce. Roll in flour. Roll in egg yolk. Roll again in flour. Deep fry until done at 320 degrees (2-3 minutes). Cut tomato and onion into 8 parts. Chop green pepper into 3/4″ squares – color only.

When the pork is done, drain it. Using the same wok, brown onion and pepper in 1 tbsp. oil for 1 minute. Add in tomato and pineapple chunks, cook for 5 seconds. Add the deep fried pork and take away from the heat. Mix well and serve immediately.

“Sweet and Sour” sauce

Ingredients:
1 cup malt vinegar
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. salt
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup tomato paste

Combine the above ingredients and bring to a boil slowly. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Adjust the seasoning for harmony and balance.

Add cornstarch to thicken.

Recipe: Chicken Curry

I found this recipe online a year or so ago. It’s a really fine red curry. I went and picked up some real curry powders at an Indian market and that made it perfect.

INGREDIENTS:
1⁄2 kg (1.1 lbs.) chicken (preferably bone-in, boneless is okay)
2 to 3 tablespoons oil
1 cup (3 medium) onions (fine chopped)
1 to 2 green chilies (slit, omit for less spicy, Thai or Indian chili peppers or serrano peppers)
1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste or 3⁄4 inch ginger, 3 cloves garlic minced
1⁄2 cup (2 medium) tomatoes (pureed or finely chopped)
1⁄4 cup yogurt (or 1 1⁄2 tbsp cashew butter or 12 cashews powdered & pureed with 1⁄4 cup water)

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in heavy bottom pan. When the oil turns hot, add
1 small bay leaf (or 1 sprig curry leaves)
    2 inch cinnamon piece
    4 cloves
    3 green cardamoms.
  2. Add 1 cup very finely chopped onions and 1 chopped green chili pepper. Saute the onions till they turn golden.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste. Make sure the onions turn golden before adding ginger garlic.
  4. Saute ginger garlic for about 2 to 3 minutes or until the raw smell disappears completely.
  5. Add 1⁄2 cup tomatoes (chopped or mashed or pureed). Also add 1⁄4 teaspoon turmeric and 1⁄2 teaspoon salt.
  6. Next fry until the tomatoes turn completely mushy and the raw smell has gone.
  7. Add 1 teaspoon red chili powder and 1⁄4 cup whisked yogurt (curd). Temper the yogurt by adding some sauce then mix it in slowly.
  8. Saute on a medium flame until the mixture becomes thick and begins to smell good.
  9. Add: 1⁄2 kg chicken (about 1 lb), 1 teaspoon garam masala powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves or mint leaves.
  10. Saute for 3 to 4 mins or until the chicken turns pale.
  11. Cover and cook on a low flame for about 3 to 4 mins so the chicken absorbs the flavors. Meanwhile, heat 1 cup water in a separate pot. You can also microwave the water in a cup for 1 min.
  12. Pour 1⁄2 to 3⁄4 cup hot water or as needed. Using cold water often makes the meat tough & hard.
  13. Make sure you use just enough water to partially cover the chicken. Cover and cook on a low to medium heat until soft tender. It took about 10 mins for me. This may vary depending on the age of the chicken or the size of the pieces. Do not cook on a high temperature.
  14. Lastly check whether the chicken is done by pricking it with a fork. It must be soft and should fall off the bone easily. Taste the curry and add more salt if need. Also add 1⁄2 teaspoon more garam masala if you feel the curry is low on flavor.
  15. When the curry reaches a desired consistency switch off the stove. Add some coriander leaves for garnish. Keep covered until you serve.

At some guy’s party, he has a cool bong. I struggle to get it set up, but finally do. Go to my car, trying to put things in. Susan and Meegan come up, invite me to come back in. The guy asks if I’m looking for a friend, I say just for the night. We pack into a couch and I sit between Susan and some girl. It’s very crowded, there’s a leg sticking out.

Walking around the ramps of some building. Go down, then back up and into an elevator.

At some concert, my seat is way in the back. Start slowly walking to the front, trying to find a seat. Go to an alcove to the right, look for seats in the front. The pit is empty. Realize it’s an awards show as the announcer starts. Walk over to the left, Sit along the wall. Tam shows up, we talk so I can sit next to her, then talk to a family while their kids play with something.

The Winter of our discontent? More like 4 years…

Please tip the writer. Whatever amount you like-every little bit helps, and I’ll do a shoutout. We are always short of cash, especially with a big mortgage. Let me know if you or someone you know needs web design/development-my rates aren’t bad, and I’m more than pretty good at it. Java/database/AWS/UI too. ThankYouVeryMuch!

January is ending, been cold the last bit, though not wet. Trying to keep us afloat. And now starts the unending mess. Hopefully it won’t be too messy. We’re just going to have to deal with what comes. It’s kind of sad, but that’s the way of it. Trying to think things out, and hopefully progress some. Some things need to get done.

Thursday, time to go. No car yet, may have to take the bus. No gamelan last night. We had a duck visit last night! Put out some food, but he left anyways. Took Claire to a movie at the local theater, picking people up.

Late Saturday night-ate too much candy popcorn-bleh. Not much today-did a little, got Claire, worked out. Making oatmeal for tomorrow. We got some cash from Erika’s work. That helps some. Took the bus to the gym Thursday, Matt picked me up and we got Claire.

Tuesday noon. (12/10) Not much going on-we have cash from Erika’s work, so less pressure. Unfortunately, she then quit-she’s been having anxiety over it, so it wasn’t worth the stress. Worked out last night-it’s pretty crowded, so less than fun, but 30-10-30 is a challenge, so. Sunday was driving around and shopping, worked out later.

Friday (12/27) late. The month just flew by. The usual, busy on the run up the Christmas-taking 2 whole weeks off! Left a bit of a mess at work. Nice staying up late and sleeping in. Didn’t get presents ordered from Amazon in time, so got a couple of things for Erika from the binz. Got a huge tool chest. Pumped out the crawlspace this afternoon-it’s been raining for a week. Drove to Beaverton yesterday to replace Salem’s laptop. Ate a sandwich and Erika helped out some kids that got in an accident.

Friday again (1/3). Not much happening-last vacation day-still sleeping in, though I should start getting up earlier. Quiet New Year’s. Trying to keep my workout schedule. Got the spa cleaned up and set up-need a canopy-found one at the binz, but no bottom pole.

Tuesday afternoon (1/7). Back to work-slept super badly Sunday night, got woken up at 6:30 this morning. Hope tonight doesn’t go like that. Not much else-worked out last night, had lunch, so no fail. The usual weekend.

Here it is, Friday (1/17). Been slacking on this-just busy. Taking the day off-my usual holiday day off. Odd though, so soon after a long break. Got Erika’s mini storage shed up-a lot of work solo. It’s only a third full. Not much else-going to be very cold the next few days. Work, workouts, driving kids home, shopping on the weekends. I should call this.

Sunday night (1/26). Didn’t call it. And another week gone. Not much-the usual, drove around yesterday, put the stuff in my big tool chest, Claire went to Eugene on the train, did some yard work, folded up the tent, put up a canopy over the spa, took down the Christmas tree.

Driving up to a park with Claire, we’re at the top of a valley. Come down the road, there’s a big house. We go in and it’s abandoned, but full of stuff. Walk around and talk to people, there’s a nice stereo. Walk around some more and leave.
