On the road, stop for a yard sale and find a pair of rain boots.

10:56 pm-At the room, getting ready for bed, drinking a nice TJ’s Bohemian lager. In beervana. Odd. OK. So the past few days-“meeting” Weds afternoon-more like an early out, at the bar. Up Thurs, work, looked at a house after work-nice. Up today, got a cr done, almost done with another one-found out why things weren’t working. To storage, getting things so they’re able to get at. One more round, I think. I have most of my stuff for work.
2008/5/9
A huge hurricane comes and we go through it.

11:15 am-Taking a quick break-Toad dies, updating virus, called the movers to see how much the refund would be, submitting expense reports. Working through side effects of this lookup cr. Yesterday-home, clubhouse, dinner, kids to bed-Matt is having problems getting to sleep-late nights, dinner, bed, up today. Erika found a nice house in Milwaukie-looking at it tomorrow.
12:54 pm-Testing this lookup cr-looks fine, but testing is crucial. Went to give blood, but the mad cow thing is still in place. Was going to open a bank account, but forgot the page with my address on it. Submitted expense reports, waiting on the big one-going to split it in 2-called the movers and it looks like we’ll get $500 back-woo hoo! Stopped fasTrak too.

11:34 am-At work, taking a quick break-I’m trying to figure out how to get this new cr going. Last night-home, play with boys, clubhouse, TJ’s, dinner, showers, kids to bed. Dinner for us, to bed-the baby woke up and that was that. Up, to work. Need to get the last CR tested.
4:14 pm-At work-trying to pin down the query to return columns. Running up against a security thing where you can’t login as a direct user. So, not much else-the family visited, work, lunch, work. Getting my expense reports prepped. Got a 1 day paycheck-whoopee.

9:55 am-Well, it’s been awhile since I picked this up-busy moving and settling down, basically.
I closed my DSL, so no more mysite.verizon.net…I have no idea where I’ll set it down-host #5… OK. I don’t even remember when I did this last, and no website, no storage unit. So-I think my last post was 4/9. To recap: Before 2 weeks ago is a bit of a blur… Kids to school, packing, getting things prepared, canceling services, etc. Mon-kids to school, moving guy visited, packing. Sun-last church, packing. Tues-get truck, unload storage, take fridge to MOPS mom, washer, dryer, stuff to school, back home. Packing, packing, packing. Very tired. Weds-empty truck, return it, movers at 8:30, Erika took kids-Colin’s birthday circle, I’m packing as they move, nice driver. Tam, Tracy & Bonnie came up, Erika is melting down over the pressure, start cleaning up, sleep. Thurs-up, kids to school, Erika to MOPS, start packing-arranging things, cleaning up, pick up tow trailer, pick up kids, say goodbyes, back home, pack and pack and throw away-filled up both dumpsters, finally off at 5pm-traffic wasn’t too bad, in Camarillo, long and bad drive, generic motel. Fri-up, drive to SLO, nice lunch at Apple Farm, nasty turnaround messes, drive to Santa Clara, long search for a place to eat-Matt didn’t want to eat-this is the problem with long drives. Back on the road, unhook car in Millbrae, problem slinging tow, just park across the street, Satero’s, sleep. Sat-up, take Bart to city, walk around, trolley to Pier 39, walk, lunch-clam chowder, back, dinner, sleep. Sun.-up, say goodbye to Sateros, hook up car, get gas, drive to Winters, lunch, walk around, drive, found a wallet getting oil at a gas station, stop at Target, nice dinner, return wallet, drive to Ashland, nice little hotel, Salem has a high temp. Driving long distances sucks with 3 kids. Up Mon, Erika took Salem to the Dr’s., Matt & I sauna, off at noon, drive, get into Portland 6ish, unload a bit. Return tow dolly Tues, empty cars, get storage, it hailed a bit. First day Weds., HR, film, tour, sit with lead programmer, spend lunch with mover-everything looks OK, get things started, set up. Work Thurs, getting everything set up, PO box is a bust, rearrange cube. Work Friday, got a good compile, lunch with boss, Erika got a mailing address, home, dinner. To Portland Waldorf school for May Faire Sat, school tour, rainy, back home. We blew off the kite fest. Downtown church Sunday, Eddie Greenly, back home, got some rescue $$$, drove around Milwaukie looking for rentals, shopping, back home, Colin’s birthday, laze, sleep, up today, work.
12:42 pm-Back from lunch at a generic Mexican place-it was my bosses’ birthday lunch. Whoopee. One of the guys grew up in Youngstown. Working through prep for my first project. Put all the ambient on the pc and am listening to it at low volume. Need to go get a comp book.
Have a few things left to do to settle in-get mail delivered, cash checks, find a place to live, get the kids in school for next year, register the cars, ourselves, find a church, find my damn safe deposit key, etc.
4:34 pm-Taking a break. I’ve been working straight through since the last post. Got the switchover to odac done and compiled OK. Now to test. Called about gamelan, switched to Oregon for cellphones. Time to go home.
Listening to: Hole, Monks of Santo Domingo, Clash, Glass, Glass (again) KQ to Einstein, Bauhaus, Veruca Salt (yummy and warm!), Lisa Gerrard, Weezer (that’s a bit of a jump), Residents (this has been a jumpy set…), Bush (where the hell did THIS come from?), Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cake, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Glass, David Sylvian, Gaden Shartse Monastery, back to ambient from the computer
2008/5/5
At school, the kids are in JASP, and I walk around the room-L says I can’t be there, even though I’m doing some work. I talk to a few kids and walk around a bit.
2008/5/3
Walking along some nice street-there’s no one around. At all. There are skeletons in the cars. We walk out to a naval dock, looking for a boat or something to go where there are people. I find a car and climb up a very steep ramp to the top of a tower. I walk across a catwalk and over to a door. Someone meets me there and is going to open the door for me.

12:38 am-At the dinner table, computing. I misplaced a letter to Quest and tore the house up trying to find it. Finally I gave up and left a message for the HR chick to redo the stuff for me to sign. I rarely misplace things…I guess it’s the chaos of losing my job and getting ready to move.
OK. So Monday was pretty quiet, hanging out with the kids, Erika picked up her mom, dinner. So up on Tuesday, we’re going to Legoland, but slept in a bit. And…I got the job in Portland! Emailed the guy back, starting April 30th. Breakfast at Polly’s, drive to Legoland, walking around, rides, taking pictures, lunch, waiting in line. Drive home, drive Bonnie home, drive back. Up today, I had a phone screen at 10 am Central-I thought it was for Pacific, so I was asleep when the call came. No matter, I did pretty well. Email, hang out, send a big file.
2008/4/9
On a field, they’re practicing football. Walk around, I catch a few of the footballs.
In someone’s house, at the bar, there’s old college friends, one’s wearing a mask. He takes it off. Trying to refill some ink things? They’re spilling. Pour a beer and it’s foamy. Next morning and I take a beer and start drinking.
Go down to the studio area, it hasn’t been used lately. Clear off some of the old labels-someone else walks around.
2008/4/8
Playing hockey outside, practicing, slap the thing around, also playing frisbee.

10:06 am-At the dining room table, answering email. Fairly quiet weekend. Lazy Saturday-we went over to a local park and threw boomerangs around. No church Sunday-I took a second pass through my boxes and got rid of a bunch more stuff-I’m down to 9 boxes from 12-more like 18 total. One more pass should do it. I also went through all my pending filing and tossed the majority of it. All I kept were insurance policies, tax returns, rental agreements, etc. Now I have to get rid of it securely. I think I lost my passport-rrrrr. Up today-kids are home this week.
2008/4/5
At US, In the office-it’s crowded-I try to rearrange the pens. Go downstairs, they’ve covered over Monkey Island and changed the colors. Go past the gym and out to the parking lot.
Daily posting-4/4/2008
10:31 pm-End of week-busy. Weds-kids to school, home, phone interview with DC job, offered it to me 5 mins after the interview was over, with a decision due by 9am. What’s up with that? I talked about it with Erika and a guy from church-we all figured it was a bad idea-too many unknowns and bad juju in the air. Declined, maybeoffsite/offhours? Thurs., kids to school, Erika to MOPS, took Matt to a field trip in the canyon. Pick up Colin, hang out. Today, interview in Altadena, so I picked up Matt early and drove out to the parents-lunch, interview went well, Matt swam. Tough drive home-an accident and a police funeral procession. Matt & Colin over at neighbors’ playing vid games, diddled around with a guitar, to bed, Erika’s at a meeting and had another one this afternoon. Looked at Portland, dreaming of things. I gave the hard line to the Quest guy and haven’t heard back.

10:04 am-Sitting at the dinner table, computing. This will probably be my location until I get a job…I have a phone interview at 2 with Hollywood Video in Portland, Oregon. Still looking. I applied to a bunch more jobs last night-including the one at ADP…again. Hmmmmm-Quest did that with the one in NC. No matter. Back to it. Delivered Mathias to school, got my mini aquarium from work, met Rony on the way out. Home, coffee, work.
9:02 pm-In bed, computing, watching “Jail”, baby in lap-she’s squirmy. Not much-interview went well. Looks like I might be at Quest in Toronto also. We’ll see.
2008/4/1
Talk to a guy about doing website design, sit at a counter and I fart loudly.
Walk through a school that looks like it’s in Long Beach. I comment on this. Out to Alamitos, up to a fenced in area-going to a football game? My mom is there and she’s had a lot to drink-the bottles are there.
Daily posting-3/31/2008
9:58 pm-Well, I’m at home, in bed, computing. Applied for unemployment. Woo hoo. I had a meeting with the guy from Toronto, about the Quest job there. It went really well. Odd, though, seeing as I don’t work there anymore… I took apart all my stuff, wiped the laptop, tried to wipe the desktop, but Ubuntu wouldn’t boot. So I just unplugged everything. Recap: school, work, home, job search, didn’t get the NC job, more to come. Clean up things, missed a dentist’s appointment. Erika to conference Sat, hang out, home, church Sun, shop, home, Colin is sick.
2008/3/31
In a plane, sort of. It’s taking off, but not fast enough. As we reach the end of the runway, the pilot tries to stop, then changes his mind. The plane never really gains altitude, and goes into a belly landing.
In bed, sleeping, wake up and feel a really small earthquake.
2008/3/30
At the beach, waves come in, walk around, they’re nice and big, but thin.
Daily posting-3/24/2008
1:42 pm-Doing this midday-like I care anymore about doing any work. I’ve been thinking about my past-the time I was at the studio and these guys came in with master tapes from Sublime-after Brad died-they were going to do a remix and didn’t have a 24-track recorder. So we sit there and listen to the tapes and move some of it to DAT. It was all real early jams and Brad singing about nothing. And hanging out upstairs at the Blue, and Brad’s wife comes up and has a bridal shower-me and Adi helped out. I was thinking about degrees of separation.
Sunday-up, church, shop, home, beach, pool. Up late moving things from box to box, culling-went through a misc box, one more to go, another culling round upcoming. No news yet about the NC job, the ADP one is gone. Not much today-up late, kids to school, email problems, to work, email replies, phone calls, gave the layoff doc back. <sigh> it’s such BS. Need to go to B of A and close out my safe deposit box.s
