Sanding my guitar-very mottled and messy.
Ken N is trying to hang himself. I’m shooting the rope down in the guise of shooting him. Hard to aim. I go backstage and talk to him, try to make him feel better.

At school-there’s a drum set and I sit down and play a bit. Shoon tells me to wait for someone, but they’re not there so I go back to the drum kit.

At the beach. GO to drive Erika but turn the wrong way-she wanted to go downtown. We’re going to the airport, go around a curve, hit some gravel and fly out of the car. Get back in and put my tall helmet back on.

Going to fly kites at the beach, set up, talk about power kites.
Walking down with Bill N, we pass a few bars and end up sitting at a long table-I sit at the end. Some girl comes up and we start talking. The bar closes and we go to a new one.
Busy, but nothing new
Lessee-it’s been since the 7th. Hmmmmm. Time marches on.
Quite a bit has happened, but the actual reality is that nothing earth-shaking has happened. At least in my life. Ask an Egyptian or a Tunisian, you might get a very different answer.
So, here’s the recap: working on a full from scratch design at work. Worked out very well. I got some money from the Hollywood liquidation-which was nice. Got the house clean before Erika left and it’s still pretty clean, which is no mean accomplishment. Erika went to Long Beach to visit her mom. It was crazy-running around taking the kids on their ways, but we had Rigoberto’s and Pietro’s, both nights, so I don’t think they minded too much. We got a new washer/dryer and fridge for a good price. Hard work to get them out of the guy’s house. We still need to install them… Erika got bikes for us, we went riding this Sat-to school, Pietro’s and back. It was tough on her. She had a lip thing looked at Friday-I stayed home with Salem. Mathias’ birthday was the 23rd, he got a few games and a nice ice cream cake. He had a concert last Thursday too.
Working through some interesting things-I think the ID work is taking, but I can’t tell yet. Some interesting things have happened, but I need to wait and not overjudge or analyze.
And the huge news is happening in North Africa. It’s thrilling, hopefully it will make a difference.
Here are some links: Economics in an Age of Fracture, What Eisenhower Got Wrong, The Great Food Crisis of 2011, America’s Culture of Cruelty, Does “Democracy” Still Mean Anything? and Farewell to Modernity in the New Age of Surveillance. I don’t think I’ll post any links on the stuff in the mideast until things settle down some-it’s too early to tell how they’ll play out. I don’t have stratfor anymore, so I can’t get astute analysis.

Dr. Who is trying to get some kid to give up his habit-he needs him for a mission. I’m sitting there pulling apart a piece of eight.
Flying around on a motorcycle to Iron Maiden.

Doing reception, move to another office-they didn’t tell me what to do, so I look around. Discover I was in the wrong part of the cubes, they’re going to a dinner-leave. Erika drive me there, we go on surface streets-very windy. A plan passes with its wing in tatters from the wind. It passes very close and does a touch and go on the freeway. Another one does it too. We get to the place and it’s a small house, next to a big fancy dining place. We go in and check in, stand around then go in to the dining room.

In a bar with Al B. He does a challenge for some TV thing and drinks 2 drinks right after another. He then runs out the front to barf.

Walking around a city and school. Walk into a library? There’s a collapsible Sherwood typewriter for really cheap. I put it with my tables, talk to some girls about how good Hemingway was and walk out. Walk past a bunch of fancy stores.

Walking into some place. Mike Paris yells at me that he hates me.
Trying to get into some closed building to look at a set of abandoned instruments. The owner comes up and we both try to get in. We have to go through a meeting and sneak around. They make me the minister. I leave and go up to the offices.
.Interim.
Working from home today. Nice, that. Not much going on-working on redesigning the import process to multi-thread. Burned a compilation DVD last night-a big pain-multi-step process, but it works. Pretty cool. Jumped rope and did t’ai chi last night too. If I can keep this up I’ll be in shape by summer. Now to the rest-recording and ID.

A dad’s kids don’t like what I’m doing.
Quiet progress
I have a few links stacked up. One of the people from church is agonizing over blogging-she does it for awhile then stops. I looked back and my posting frequency averages out to about once a week. I started out there, took a 2½ year hiatus, went to once a day, and am really variable right now. A burst, then nothing, then a burst. I know this isn’t good to keep readers, but since I’m not doing this to entertain the punters, “I, don’t care”, as Vendetta on Making Fiends says…
OK, so it’s been quiet, as it’s the New Year. I jumped rope last night and started back on the long Yang form. I did a little with the shakuhachi, and I really want to finish recording and do some new recording too. Also start on the ID program. I’m trying to lose weight, and clean things up-not using anti-perspirant/deodorant (which means more diligence about being smelly), I need to start flossing again too. Work is progressing-fixing things. Erika’s going to Long Beach on the 17th. Kids are getting up reasonably well, but are still struggling with bedtime and too much TV/game boy/wii during the week. We were supposed to have a big ice storm last night and it didn’t happen-rainy and cold, though. Gamelan tonight.
Here are the links-more depressing stuff. The Rabbi Shmuley is good, though he injects in some stuff that’s just incorrect conservative BS (the tariff stuff, for example). American Malaise, Think Again: American Decline, Big Brother: America’s Police State Mentality in the Electronic Age, In the Twilight of the Social State. I’m glad I’m reading the “The Philosophy of Freedom”, Steiner says a lot about independence of thought, but I’m not sure about the dictum to follow society if it’s going in the wrong direction.
6:13 pm-On a happier note, watch this: 21st century enlightenment. It looks like a series, and this one is amazing!

One last vacation day
Vacation is ovah-I got to sleep in most days, which was nice. And I just an email saying I have used just about 1/3 of my yearly allotted vacation in 6 months, which is nice. What’s not so nice is that Erika’s mom is dying, so we have to get her down in Long Beach to say goodbye.
The party was much like last year-very loud and not much else. One of the families’ kids are not so great, so there are 2 sets of sketchy kids and 3 not-so-sketchy. Saturday was a wedding at the First UU downtown-Bill Sinkford presided, and chatted with all the PWS parents. Yesterday (Sunday) was church-but Erika has had a headache for 3 days so we didn’t stay late. Not bad, but that’s about it. Today was lazy-I got outside for a bit to clean up the rest of the raked leaves.
Not much else going on-the link tear has abated a bit. Need to work on ID and print out Discussions with Teachers and the Mystery Plays.

In the studio, ken is diddling around and I’m setting up for a session. Waiting for him to get finished.
